Cyber crime police in Rajasthan have arrested a man from Gujarat in connection with a major online investment fraud where a resident of Churu district was swindled out of 43.90 lakh rupees under the pretext of lucrative stock trading returns. The arrested individual has been identified as 50-year-old Dakshesh Kumar Patel, originally a resident of Umta in Mehsana district and currently living in Ahmedabad. Police secured his custody from Anand district jail on a production warrant to interrogate him regarding the broader syndicate operating across state borders.
Trapped through an unsolicited messaging group
According to investigators, the victim, Kamal Kumar, who resides in Rajgarh, was unexpectedly added to an unknown WhatsApp group on 2 April 2025. The group was actively sharing misleading tips about equity investments and claiming that members could generate massive profits within exceptionally brief timeframes. Once the operators gained Kamal's confidence, they sent him an online link, instructing him to fill out a registration form that supposedly enrolled him as a verified member of an investment entity.
Following this onboarding step, the fraudsters directed Kamal to transfer funds across diverse banking accounts over different dates. Trusting the setup, Kamal deposited a cumulative sum of 43.90 lakh rupees into the assigned accounts. To make the entire operation appear authentic, the handlers provided him with login credentials to an online trading interface, where fabricated trades and surging portfolio profits were continuously reflected on the screen.
Phantom earnings and a fake zero-interest loan offer
After convincing Kamal that his capital was yielding millions in virtual profits, the fraudsters attempted an even bolder extraction. They offered him an interest-free loan of 1 crore 20 lakh rupees with a seven-day tenure, while insisting that he deposit additional capital to unlock the facility. Sensing danger and mounting pressure, Kamal refused to commit more money to the scheme.
Upon his refusal, the fraudsters promptly froze the entire balance visible on his virtual profile, locking him out of both his principal deposit and the purported gains. Unable to retrieve any part of his investment, Kamal realized he had been systematically conned and approached the cyber police station to register a formal complaint.
Financial trail points directly to Gujarat
Cyber police initiated an in-depth forensic investigation, analyzing Know Your Customer documents, bank account ledgers, call detail records, and internet protocol detail records linked to the suspect communications. The financial trail revealed that out of the total cheated sum, 18.90 lakh rupees had landed directly in bank accounts operated by Dakshesh Kumar.
A formal first information report was registered by the cyber crime police on 29 May 2025. Following the trail to Gujarat, investigators discovered that the accused was lodged in Anand district prison in connection with another case. Churu police subsequently presented a production warrant before the court, took formal custody of Patel, and brought him back for interrogation.
Investigation underway to trace syndicate associates
Police officers are currently questioning Patel regarding the movement of the illicit funds, the procurement of mule accounts, and the operational hierarchy of the racket. Investigators are also examining whether the same group has targeted other retail investors across different regions using similar fake stock market applications. Further arrests are anticipated as the probe progresses.
