The thrilling T20 series journey that began in Lucknow has now travelled through Ranchi and Indore, finally reaching the grounds of Hyderabad. Cricket fans are now eagerly awaiting those four explosive shots that could add a unique world record to Indian cricket. In the previous match played at the Holker Stadium in Indore, this milestone was claimed by the West Indies, but the Indian batters now have a golden opportunity to snatch that crown from the visiting team within a span of 72 hours.
West Indies Made History in Indore
During the third T20 match played at the Indore venue, the Indian team batted first and posted a total of 223 runs on the board. In response, the West Indies team could only manage 209 runs, losing the match by 14 runs. Despite the defeat, the Caribbean side managed to secure a massive sixes world record. Before entering that match against India, the Caribbean team had 1187... wait, 1887 sixes to their name. In that Sunday clash, they smashed a total of 13 sixes. Consequently, the West Indies became the very first team in the world to complete 2000 sixes in the T20 format. Such a record belonging to the West Indies is hardly surprising, given that the team has featured legendary power-hitters like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, and Nicholas Pooran, who possess the ability to clear the ropes at will.
India Just Four Hits Away from the Record
The Indian team has accumulated a total of 1997 sixes in T20 internationals so far, while New Zealand sits in the third position with 1585 sixes. Given the aggressive style of hitting the Indian team has displayed during the opening powerplay, it is expected that the record will belong to India within the first 30 balls. Over the years, India has boasted formidable power-hitters in T20s including Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, Yuvraj Singh, and Suryakumar Yadav. It is thanks to their efforts that India has reached the 1997 sixes mark.
Hyderabad Pitch Favours Big Hitting
Hitting just four more boundaries over the fence will propel India into the 2000 sixes club, surpassing the West Indies to claim the world record. Moreover, the Hyderabad pitch is known for witnessing a rain of runs, and this venue also serves as the IPL home ground for India's two dangerous batters, Abhishek and Ishan. It remains to be seen how the West Indies bowling attack plans to contain this explosive lineup.
