Meta has expanded its artificial intelligence footprint by purchasing Conductor, an AI coding startup built around multi-agent parallel workspaces. The startup specializes in letting software engineers assign multiple autonomous agents across segregated development environments simultaneously, speeding up complex code production.
Leadership Welcomes the Deal Ahead of New Interface Plans
Charlie Holtz, founder and chief executive of Conductor, shared the transition in an official blog post on Wednesday. While discussing the move, Holtz revealed that the platform is joining Meta to pursue ambitious plans for next-generation developer interfaces, teasing that users can expect new offerings early next year.
Writing on X, Holtz highlighted his upcoming collaboration with Alexandr Wang, chief AI officer at Meta, and Nat Friedman, head of product at the company's Superintelligence Labs. Holtz praised the group's relentless momentum and talent density across the laboratory. Meta acknowledged the transaction but declined to offer further commentary or disclose the financial terms of the buyout.
Core Tech Architecture and Cloud Service Sunset
Established in 2024, Conductor brought its flagship product to market only last summer. Its framework orchestrates agentic software teams across cloud infrastructure, local machines, or mobile devices, enabling engineers to isolate and tackle compartmentalized codebases concurrently. Rather than training models internally, the startup routes its tasks through external foundational systems developed by laboratories such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
The startup confirmed that primary local functionalities will remain accessible until early next year. However, Conductor will officially pull the plug on its cloud hosting environment on November 20, after which it will initiate the permanent deletion of stored user cloud records.
Meta Bridges Competitive Gaps With Aggressive Tooling Push
The deal reflects Meta's broader strategy to bolster its AI offerings after previously trailing industry frontrunners. In August, the tech giant released Muse Code to assist programmers working on massive codebases. Adoption across the wider family of Muse agents has surged, surpassing 10 million users in recent metrics. Over the past year, the company has completed several key acquisitions across the sector, including the viral agent network Moltbook.
