A sudden and catastrophic bout of flooding across Nepal has left countless individuals displaced from their homes, prompting an extensive emergency response to locate those who remain unaccounted for. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nepal, disaster response personnel have successfully evacuated and rescued more than 323 foreign nationals from the hardest-hit regions. However, current records indicate that roughly 590 foreign citizens originating from 39 different countries are still missing. In response to the high number of unaccounted-for international visitors, the ministry has established a dedicated emergency control room to maintain constant coordination with relevant domestic agencies as well as the families of the missing persons.
Verified updates concerning foreign nationals are being regularly shared and refreshed through established diplomatic missions. Specialized Teams From India and China Lead Tunnel Operations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that significant disaster relief and rescue assistance has already been delivered to Nepal by global partners including India, China, Japan, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, and several others. This inbound aid encompasses essential items such as bridge units, commercial freezers, power generators, solar lamps, DNA testing kits, emergency deployment gear, tents, blankets, sleeping bags, dry rations, and critical medical supplies.
While initial shipments from neighboring countries have already reached the affected regions, additional relief materials continue to be dispatched from nations including the United Arab Emirates, Myanmar, the United States, Qatar, the United Kingdom, Australia, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
In addition to sovereign aid, substantial support is being channeled through international organizations and agencies such as the United Nations, the World Health Organization, the World Food Programme, and UNICEF.
International Support Anticipated for Post-Disaster Reconstruction
Officials stated that preliminary damage assessments are currently underway to evaluate the full scale of destruction caused by the floods. A formal Post-Disaster Needs Assessment will be conducted at a later stage to determine the precise financial and infrastructural losses incurred.
The severe floods and natural calamity have dealt a massive blow to critical infrastructure, including residential dwellings, roadways, bridges, and major hydroelectric facilities. Nepal is expected to require substantial international assistance to fund rehabilitation and long-term rebuilding efforts. The ministry noted that detailed specifics regarding the country's precise requirements will be communicated to the international community as comprehensive damage evaluations progress.
DNA Samples Collected to Ensure Proper Identification of Unidentified Deceased
The ministry reported that due to prolonged submersion in floodwaters, certain bodies recovered from the disaster zones are severely decomposed or visually unrecognizable. To handle these cases with dignity, such mortal remains have been temporarily interred.
Prior to burial, medical teams systematically collected DNA samples from every deceased individual to ensure positive identification can be made later by cross-referencing records with families. Authorities confirmed that formal permission will be granted to exhume bodies for traditional funeral rites if requested by grieving relatives in the future.
According to the government, established standard protocols and rigorous guidelines are being strictly followed regarding the management and handling of human remains under these extraordinarily challenging circumstances.
Prime Minister Directly Overseeing Rescue and Coordination Efforts
