A catastrophic explosion ripped through an ambulance in southern Pakistan on Thursday, claiming the lives of at least 10 people in the Nagarparkar region of Sindh's Tharparkar district. The fatal blast took place while the medical transport vehicle was rushing a woman, who had recently given birth and developed severe postnatal health complications, to an advanced healthcare facility for specialized care. The sudden detonation of the onboard medical oxygen equipment engulfed the vehicle and left passengers with virtually no chance of survival.
Transfer from Primary Health Center to District Hospital
The patient was initially being treated at a basic health unit located in Dano Dhandhal. Following delivery complications that required intensive medical observation, local health workers referred her to the district headquarters hospital in Mithi. The family and attendants boarded the emergency vehicle alongside medical supplies, hoping to reach the specialized ward in time, but the vehicle was torn apart while transiting through Nagarparkar.
Detonation Triggered During Cylinder Adjustment
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Tharparkar, Arif Aziz Jafri, confirmed the death toll, verifying that 10 individuals, including the postpartum mother, were killed in the incident. According to the senior officer, the blast was triggered inside the moving ambulance when the driver attempted to shift or adjust the position of the medical oxygen canister. Local authorities have initiated a comprehensive administrative and forensic inquiry into the fatal disaster, with investigators examining equipment safety standards and handling protocols.
