A horrifying case of homicide has emerged from Patna, the capital of Bihar, leaving the local community in shock. A 20-year-old married woman was heartlessly murdered at her matrimonial home. The allegations state that the victim was first rendered incapacitated through electric shocks and subsequently strangled to death using a wire. Following the discovery of the crime, the victim's family filed a formal complaint at the local police station, leading to the initiation of legal proceedings.
Details of the Incident
The incident came to light on Sunday, July 12, 2026, in the Gulariya Bigaha area under the jurisdiction of the Dhanrua police station in Patna. It is alleged that the victim’s husband and other in-laws had been systematically mistreating her. On the day of the incident, the husband reportedly used electricity to shock her into an unconscious state before strangling her with a wire. After ensuring her death, the husband and other family members fled the residence, leaving the body behind.
Public Outrage and Police Response
The news of the murder sent shockwaves through the neighborhood. Approximately five hours after the event, villagers alerted the authorities. Upon receiving the news, the victim’s maternal relatives rushed to the in-laws' house in Dhanrua. In a fit of rage, the relatives destroyed property inside the house using sticks and rods. The situation was brought under control only after the timely intervention of the Dhanrua police, who arrived at the scene and prevented further escalation of the violence.
Marriage and Dowry Conflict
The victim, identified as Pooja Kumari, was a native of Nurpur Dhamapur in the Ghosi police station area of Jahanabad district, Bihar. She was married to Raviranjan Kumar, a resident of Gulariya Bigaha, in March 2024. At the time of the wedding, Pooja's family had provided a motorcycle, cash, and other gifts as per their financial capacity. The family alleges that immediately following the marriage, the in-laws began pressuring Pooja for more dowry, specifically demanding additional cash and a new motorcycle.
Legal Investigation
Pooja’s uncle, Ramdhyan Kumar, has registered an FIR against four named individuals, including her husband Raviranjan Kumar, father-in-law Arvind Kumar, sister-in-law Preeti Kumari, and mother-in-law Phulmanti Devi. They have been charged with harassment and murder in connection with a dowry dispute. Station House Officer Amit Kumar confirmed that the body has been sent to PMCM for a post-mortem examination. The police are currently investigating the matter, and the exact cause of death will be officially determined once the autopsy report is available.
