At the time of the wedding, Pooja's family had provided a motorcycle, cash, and other gifts as per their financial capacity. The family alleges that immediately following the marriage, the in-laws began pressuring Pooja for more dowry, specifically demanding additional cash and a new motorcycle.

Pooja’s uncle, Ramdhyan Kumar, has registered an FIR against four named individuals, including her husband Raviranjan Kumar, father-in-law Arvind Kumar, sister-in-law Preeti Kumari, and mother-in-law Phulmanti Devi. They have been charged with harassment and murder in connection with a dowry dispute. Station House Officer Amit Kumar confirmed that the body has been sent to PMCM for a post-mortem examination.
