The excise department team in Kaimur district of Bihar has achieved a major breakthrough at the Mohania integrated checkpost by intercepting a massive consignment of illicit foreign liquor. During routine vehicle checking, officials uncovered a sophisticated smuggling attempt where liquor boxes were heavily concealed underneath rubber slipper cuttings inside a transport vehicle. The estimated market value of the confiscated alcohol is pegged between 80 to 90 lakh rupees. Authorities successfully arrested one smuggler on the spot and impounded the vehicle involved in the illegal operation.
Secret Intelligence and Strategic Surveillance
Santhosh Srivastava, the in-charge of the Mohania checkpost, shared details about the operation, stating that the department had received specific intelligence regarding a large consignment of liquor being transported into Bihar from Chandigarh. Acting on the vehicle number provided by the informant, officials devised a specialized strategy. Department staff in civil dress were deployed for surveillance starting from Chhajju Pokhar, while the remaining team maintained strict vigil at the checkpost. When the targeted vehicle eventually arrived at the checkpoint, the team immediately halted it for inspection, but the driver failed to produce any valid documents or bills for the transported cargo.
Sophisticated Concealment Beneath Footwear Cuttings
Following the vehicle's stoppage, excise officials utilized advanced scanning equipment and manual inspection to conduct a thorough search of the transport. The investigation revealed a cleverly engineered hiding spot where cartons of foreign liquor were stacked underneath layers of cut slippers. Upon complete unloading and counting, the vehicle was found to be carrying a staggering 701 boxes of foreign liquor. Official measurements confirmed that the total volume of the seized alcohol amounted to 6,218 liters and 640 milliliters.
Interrogation and Ongoing Investigation
During initial questioning by the authorities, the detained driver disclosed his name as Nagga Ram, confirming that he hails from the state of Rajasthan. The excise department is currently subjecting the arrested accused to rigorous interrogation to unearth the broader network behind the operation. Investigators are actively probing the intended destination within Bihar where this massive consignment of illicit liquor was scheduled to be delivered.
