Veteran Bollywood actor Suresh Oberoi has drawn significant attention following his participation in a wide-ranging interview. Speaking on Nidhi Vasandani's YouTube channel, the experienced performer offered candid insights into his past political journey as well as his individual rapport with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and its chief, Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat. Clarifying his stance on public organizations, the actor stated that while he holds immense respect for the RSS and considers himself a fan of its work, he has never formally enrolled as an official member.
A Morning Breakfast Visit by the RSS Chief
During the conversation, Suresh Oberoi fondly recounted a memorable personal event highlighting his close connection with Mohan Bhagwat. He mentioned having built a warm acquaintance with the RSS chief over time. Elaborating on an occasion when Mohan Bhagwat visited his home for a morning meal, the actor recalled the enthusiasm of his entire family. To mark the visit, his wife specially prepared halwa, which the visiting leader greatly enjoyed. This gathering, according to the actor, underscored the genuine personal affection and respect shared between them beyond public profiles.
Ideological Affinity Without Formal RSS Membership
Suresh Oberoi emphasized that his alignment with the RSS stems from personal convictions and shared values rather than administrative ties. Expressing explicit admiration for Mohan Bhagwat, he openly referred to himself as an admirer of the organization. However, he maintained a clear distinction regarding his formal involvement. He explained that being fond of the organization does not translate to active membership, clarifying that he does not attend daily morning shakhas nor does he participate in RSS functions in the capacity of an official member.
Entry Into the BJP in 2004 and Eventual Disillusionment
Reflecting further on his time in public life, the actor spoke about his formal entry into politics when he joined the BJP in the year 2004. Throughout that period, he interacted with several senior figures within the party organization, specifically recalling his encounters with prominent leaders such as L.K. Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. However, as time progressed, his perspective underwent a significant shift. Suresh Oberoi shared that he originally viewed political engagement as a meaningful platform for national and social service, but his practical experience in the political arena gradually led to disillusionment.
