Prominent Bollywood actress and film producer Kirti Kulhari has fallen victim to a major cyber fraud incident in Mumbai. Cybercriminals unauthorizedly compromised her credit card credentials while she was inside a movie theatre in Andheri West, siphoning off Rs 2,43,852 within a matter of minutes. Upon discovering the fraudulent activity, she swiftly alerted bank authorities to secure her account and filed an official police complaint. Amboli Police in Mumbai, along with the Cyber Cell, have launched a comprehensive investigation to track down the unidentified perpetrators.
Alert Message Arrived During Movie Screening
According to the official First Information Report (FIR), the 43-year-old actress, who resides in the Versova neighborhood of Mumbai, was attending a movie show at the Cinépolis theatre inside Fun Republic Mall in Andheri West. At approximately 9:31 PM, her mobile phone buzzed with an automated transaction alert from her bank. The message indicated that a payment of $2,525 USD had been charged to her credit card for transactions associated with AeroMexico airline.
Four Unauthorized Transactions Totaling Over Rs 2.43 Lakh
Realizing immediately that an unauthorized breach was taking place, Kirti Kulhari dialed her bank's toll-free helpline without delay. Upon analyzing the account activity, bank representatives informed her that four major unauthorized transactions had been executed using her credit card without her consent or knowledge. The total fraudulent charges amounted to Rs 2,43,852. To prevent further financial losses, the bank immediately blocked her credit card as a precautionary safety measure.
Police Suspect Malicious Malware or Spyware Intrusions
In her statement to the investigating officers, the actress confirmed that she had never shared her confidential credit card password, personal identification number (PIN), or sensitive banking details with anyone. Preliminary findings suggest that the victim's mobile device might have been compromised using malicious malware or spyware, allowing hackers to remotely intercept card credentials and personal data. Amboli Police have registered a case against unknown individuals, while the Cyber Cell is analyzing bank reference numbers, transaction logs, and digital trails to trace the suspects.
