The box office clash between two distinct cinematic releases that hit theaters last Friday has taken an intriguing turn. Released on July 3, the action-thriller "Alpha," starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, continues to assert its dominance at the ticket windows. On the other hand, the mystery-thriller "Baby Do Die Do," featuring Huma Qureshi, has failed to find its footing and is witnessing a steady decline in its collections. While both films had a relatively moderate start over their opening weekend, "Alpha" faced a quiet Monday both domestically and internationally. In contrast, "Baby Do Die Do" has struggled with disappointing numbers since its opening day. Now, the box office figures for the fifth day (Tuesday) have emerged, highlighting a clear divergence in the theatrical run of these two films.
Alpha Registers a Healthy 10.4% Growth on Day 5
Alia Bhatt's action-thriller "Alpha" showed a promising upward trend on its first Tuesday. According to early estimates provided by box office tracker Sacnilk, the film managed to collect ₹4.25 crore net from 7,173 shows across India on its fifth day. This represents a solid 10.4% increase from its Monday collection, which stood at ₹3.85 crore. Such mid-week growth is a positive indicator of strong word-of-mouth and sustained audience interest. With these updated figures, the total domestic net collection for "Alpha" has reached ₹42.10 crore. Meanwhile, the film's domestic gross collection has comfortably crossed the ₹50 crore mark, standing at ₹50.23 crore after five days in theaters.
Overseas Growth Pushes Alpha Past the ₹70 Crore Mark Globally
Beyond its strong domestic performance, "Alpha" is also making significant inroads in international markets. On its fifth day, the action-thriller added ₹1.50 crore from overseas territories, bringing its total international gross collection to ₹19.80 crore. When combining the domestic and overseas figures, the global box office collection for "Alpha" now stands at an impressive ₹70.03 crore gross. Crossing the ₹70 crore milestone within just five days of its release solidifies the film's position as a commercially successful venture.
Baby Do Die Do Continues to Struggle at the Box Office
While "Alpha" enjoys a profitable run, Huma Qureshi's mystery-thriller "Baby Do Die Do" is facing an uphill battle. The film’s performance on its fifth day remained critically low. According to tracking data, "Baby Do Die Do" could only manage a net collection of ₹36 lakh on Tuesday from 697 screens nationwide. The gross collection for the day was estimated at approximately ₹40 lakh. These figures are far below initial industry expectations. The film’s slow momentum can be attributed to several factors, including fierce competition from "Alpha," a much smaller screen count, and mixed word-of-mouth from the audience, which has severely restricted its footfall.
A Look at the Future Projects of Alia Bhatt and Huma Qureshi
Despite the varying box office outcomes of their current releases, both leading ladies have highly anticipated projects lined up. Alia Bhatt is set to collaborate with acclaimed filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his upcoming magnum opus "Love & War." This star-studded film will also feature Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in pivotal roles, making it one of the most awaited releases in Indian cinema. On the other hand, Huma Qureshi will soon be seen sharing the screen with superstar Yash in the upcoming film "Toxic." The highly anticipated project is scheduled to hit theaters on August 26, offering Qureshi a major platform to bounce back.
