A new video of celebrated Bollywood singer Alka Yagnik is spreading rapidly across social media, and it has left her millions of admirers deeply worried. She was recently honoured with the Padma Bhushan in New Delhi, and now this clip, which shows her seated in a wheelchair, has surfaced. In the footage she appears quite frail, with a man supporting her as he helps her move along. Seeing the beloved voice in such a condition, fans on the internet have grown emotional.
The moment the video appeared online, fans became restless and began praying for her swift recovery. On X (Twitter), one admirer wrote, ‘I wish Alka Yagnik ji good health and high spirits. May God give her the strength to come through this difficult time and may she return to us fully fit and well very soon.’ Another user posted, ‘May God heal Ma'am quickly, we all want to see her singing on a music show once again.’
The Rare Condition She Is Battling
Alka Yagnik has in fact been fighting a serious illness for quite some time. In 2024, she herself made a startling disclosure, revealing that she had developed an extremely rare condition called sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), which affects a person's ability to hear. It struck her suddenly after a viral attack, severely damaging her hearing.
How She First Realised Something Was Wrong
At the time, Alka Yagnik shared a deeply emotional post on social media, recalling the frightening moment when she first sensed the problem. She wrote, ‘A few weeks ago, as I stepped off a flight, I suddenly felt that I could not hear anything at all.’ Doctors later examined her and confirmed she had developed this rare condition.
A Heavy Toll on Her Career
The hearing condition has had a profound impact on Alka Yagnik's professional life. Music composers continue to approach her regularly for new projects, but health difficulties have kept her from fully returning to the recording studio. Her last song was ‘Naram Kalja’ from Imtiaz Ali's film ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’ (2024), composed by AR Rahman. She has not lent her voice to any new film or album since.
