Bollywood veteran Shatrughan Sinha recently opened up about the raw, unglamorous chapter that preceded his rise to stardom. In a candid interview, he recounted how people ridiculed his appearance daily and how, despite having zero film-industry connections, he fought his way to the top through sheer willpower.
Every Single Day, the Taunts About His Looks
When asked if anyone had ever told him he could not become a hero because of his face, Shatrughan Sinha did not flinch. "I heard that every single day," he said. "People would look at my face and ask where I had come from. When I went to struggle in the city, they would say, 'What kind of specimen has arrived from Bihar?'"
He also made clear that when he decided to pursue acting, neither his family nor anyone in his circle had any connection to the film industry. There was no godfather, no inside track, nothing except conviction and a stubborn refusal to give up.
The Time Amitabh Bachchan Pushed His Car
The most surprising revelation of the interview was a glimpse into his deep friendship with Amitabh Bachchan. Shatrughan Sinha shared that during those difficult struggling years, he owned a flat and a car, and his close friend Amitabh Bachchan used to physically push that car to help get it started.
"We have a very old friendship, built during our days of struggle," he said. "He is older than me in age, but in terms of films, I was slightly ahead of him. I had a flat of my own and a car as well, and I used to have him push that car."
When told that nobody would believe such a story, Shatrughan Sinha simply smiled and replied, "He is our friend. You also have old friends. That is exactly how old friends behave with each other."
A Circle of Dreamers and Respect from Raj Kapoor
Shatrughan Sinha also looked back warmly on the tight group he moved with during those formative years. He used to go watch films together with Asrani, Amitabh Bachchan, Subhash Ghai, and Anil Dhawan, a band of young men chasing their dreams simultaneously and keeping each other's spirits up through the grind.
He also spoke fondly about legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor, sharing that Raj Kapoor always treated him with a great deal of respect and regard, something he counts among the most meaningful experiences of his career.
