A Decision Taken Seven Days Before Filming Commenced
Official announcements for Drishyam 3 surfaced in December 2025, but keen observers immediately noticed that Akshaye Khanna was missing from the announced roster. The timing coincided with Khanna receiving immense acclaim for his portrayal of Rehman Dakait in Dhurandhar. His performance had dominated television broadcasts and social media commentary. Director Abhishek Pathak revealed that Khanna exited the project a mere seven days before shooting was scheduled to kick off. The core dispute between the performer and the creative unit centered on appearance and the use of a hairpiece. Akshaye Khanna insisted on wearing a wig for his character in Drishyam 3. In fact, wardrobe fittings and look tests for Drishyam 3 were already underway under that signed contract. The producer disclosed that Khanna formally alerted the production unit on December 4, 2025, one day prior to the theatrical release of Dhurandhar, stating that he would not participate. Following that communication, the actor stopped answering calls from the team. The producer further claimed that Khanna appeared changed by recent triumphs, even remarking to the unit that Dhurandhar succeeded solely because of his contribution.
Jaideep Ahlawat Steps Into an Original Part
The swift casting of Jaideep Ahlawat sparked widespread belief among moviegoers that he had been hired to recast and inhabit the shoes of IG Tarun Ahlawat. However, both the creative heads and Ahlawat have clarified the exact nature of his casting.
Jaideep Ahlawat is not replacing Akshaye Khanna or playing the same character. The filmmakers crafted an entirely distinct individual tailored to the evolving narrative beats of the upcoming movie. Audiences heading to theaters in October 2026 will see Ahlawat introduce a completely separate figure into the intricate cat-and-mouse game surrounding the Salgaonkar household.
