Actor Sunny Deol's upcoming feature film Soorya: Anth Se Aarambh Tak has cleared an immediate legal hurdle after the Delhi High Court refused to stay its scheduled theatrical release. A public interest litigation had been filed before the court seeking an injunction against the release, arguing that promotional clips from the project negatively target the medical fraternity. A section of doctors and healthcare professionals had raised strong objections to the portrayal of medical practitioners in the film's promotional teaser and trailer, contending that such depictions severely compromise public faith in healthcare professionals.
High Court Dismisses Stay Plea While Granting Liberty to Approach CBFC
During the court proceedings, the bench found no valid grounds to entertain the public interest litigation seeking a ban on the movie's screening. Consequently, the Delhi High Court declined to grant any restraining order against the release. The court did, however, leave an administrative avenue open for the petitioner. The bench granted the petitioner liberty to formally present their grievances and objections directly before the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for regulatory review.
Concerns Raised Over Portrayal of Violence Against Healthcare Workers
Presenting arguments on behalf of the petitioner, legal counsel had submitted that the promotional teaser features overt acts of physical assault directed against healthcare staff. The advocate stressed that incidents of violence against medical professionals are already occurring with alarming frequency, and depicting such aggression on screen during such a sensitive period is deeply concerning. The petition highlighted significant apprehensions regarding the physical safety, occupational security, and societal standing of doctors serving in the country's healthcare system.
Objections and Specific Grievances Voiced by Dr. Nachiket Bhatia
Following the conclusion of the court hearing, the petitioner, Dr. Nachiket Bhatia, articulated the specific grounds behind the legal challenge. Dr. Bhatia asserted that the community's demand is focused on rectifying scenes and lines of dialogue that actively damage the reputation of healthcare providers. He pointed out that the promotional teaser shows Sunny Deol physically thrashing doctors and hospital personnel. Furthermore, he highlighted a particular dialogue in which Deol's character states that doctors write commissions rather than prescriptions. Dr. Bhatia noted that the footage levels broad accusations regarding unjustified medical billing, which could severely corrode the sacred bond of trust between patients and clinicians, potentially leading patients to view doctors with automatic suspicion.
Dispute Over True Events Tagline and Demand for Fiction Disclaimer
Dr. Nachiket Bhatia also challenged the manner in which the project is being marketed to the public. He emphasized that the teaser advertises the narrative as being inspired by unbelievable true events. When filmmakers market a dramatic story as real-life occurrences, viewers are far more likely to interpret the negative cinematic depictions as factual representations of the real-world healthcare sector. Because of this, the petitioner demanded a comprehensive review of the movie and all promotional material, the removal or alteration of controversial elements, and a transparent clarification affirming that the narrative is entirely fictitious.
