Military Lineage and Early Passion for Acting
Bikramjeet Kanwarpal was born on August 29, 1968, in Solan, Himachal Pradesh, into a family with a proud tradition of military service. His father, Dwarka Nath Kanwarpal, served as an officer in the Indian Army and was awarded the Kirti Chakra in 1963 for his exceptional bravery. Growing up in a patriotic household, Bikramjeet respected his family’s military heritage while simultaneously nurturing a deep love for cinema and performance arts. During his school years, he actively participated in plays and drama competitions. Among his circle of friends, he was affectionately known by nicknames such as 'Biz' or 'Biju'.
Joining the Army in 1989 and the Kargil War
Following in his family’s footsteps, Bikramjeet joined the Indian Army in 1989. Over his 13-year military career, he served in diverse and challenging terrain across the country. A defining chapter of his military career came when he participated in the Kargil War. Serving on the frontlines during this tense conflict exposed him to the harsh realities of warfare and profoundly reshaped his personal philosophy on life and mortality.
A Shift in Perspective After the War
Experiencing the proximity of death during the Kargil War became the catalyst for Kanwarpal's career transition. His childhood friend, Vandana Shah, recalled in an interview that after the Kargil War, Bikramjeet spoke to her about his desire to move to Mumbai and act in movies. He expressed that witnessing death so closely during active duty taught him how short life truly is, reinforcing his belief that one should never leave dreams unfulfilled. Driven by this realization, he decided to transition from a secure military profession to the unpredictable world of filmmaking.
Retirement at 34 and Bollywood Debut
After completing nearly 13 years of distinguished service, Bikramjeet retired from the Indian Army as a Major. At the age of 34, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his lifelong ambition. In 2002, a chance meeting with filmmaker Pooja Bhatt in the Khar area of Mumbai opened the doors to Hindi cinema. She offered him a role in her directorial venture 'Paap', which hit theaters in 2003, marking Kanwarpal’s official debut in Bollywood.

Following his debut in 'Paap', Bikramjeet Kanwarpal steadily built a successful career in Hindi cinema. Directors frequently sought him out for roles as police officers, army personnel, government officials, or authoritative figures, taking advantage of his impressive height, deep voice, and dignified aura.
