Legendary cinema icon Amitabh Bachchan marks his 84th birthday on October 11, continuing to demonstrate remarkable fitness and work ethic at this stage of life. Even today, leading filmmakers remain eager to collaborate with him, and his calendar stays packed with substantial projects. Beyond his cinematic craft, he has earned widespread respect across the industry for his attentive and compassionate conduct on film sets. Among the many stories that illustrate his presence of mind is a dramatic incident from decades ago, where his quick intervention saved a junior artist from fatal suffocation.
The Illusion Scene At Natraj Studio
The incident took place back in 1989 during the production of the film Jaadugar, directed by Prakash Mehra. In the project, Amitabh Bachchan played the central role of a magician. Filming was underway at Natraj Studio in Mumbai, where the schedule called for an illusion sequence. The scene required a female junior artist to be placed inside an enclosed box as part of a magic trick. The technical execution went off without a hitch, the director approved the shot as completely okay, and the crew immediately shifted their attention toward setting up the next sequence.
A Forgotten Box And A Timely Intervention
With the shot declared complete, crew members scattered across the floor to adjust lighting, move heavy equipment, and arrange subsequent scenes. In the flurry of post-shot activity, everyone on set overlooked the fact that the junior artist remained enclosed within the box. Amitabh Bachchan, however, instantly realized that no one had gone over to release the performer. Wasting no time, he sprinted across the floor toward the sealed compartment and pried it open himself, uncovering a terrifying sight that shocked everyone nearby.
Urgent Medical Care Prevented A Tragedy
Inside the enclosed space, the junior artist was found unconscious and struggling desperately to breathe due to severe lack of air. Amitabh Bachchan acted immediately, organizing emergency assistance to transport her to a nearby hospital without losing precious minutes. Medical personnel initiated prompt treatment upon her arrival and later stated that even a slight delay in opening the container could have resulted in a fatal catastrophe. His vigilance and presence of mind prevented a devastating accident, cementing a reputation for kindness that fans and colleagues celebrate as he receives warm birthday wishes on turning 84.
