Having bed bugs inside the house is becoming an extremely common household issue. These tiny and stubborn pests bite people while they sleep at night, causing severe itching and red rashes to appear on the skin. Bed bugs multiply very rapidly inside beds, sofas, clothes, and cracks in the walls. In such situations, people often struggle to figure out how to resolve this menace. If the terror of bed bugs has increased in your home too, there is no need to panic at all. You can easily get rid of this bed bug infestation by adopting some very simple home remedies.
Boiling water and strong sunlight
Bed bugs cannot tolerate excessive heat or high temperatures at all. To combat them, bed sheets, pillow covers, and curtains should always be washed in boiling hot water. After washing, keep the mattresses and pillows out in strong sunlight continuously for 2 to 3 days. The intense heat and sunshine completely destroy bed bugs and their eggs, ensuring they do not survive.
Effective use of baking soda
Baking soda works by absorbing the moisture completely from the bodies of bed bugs, causing them to dry up and die. For this, baking soda should be sprinkled generously over the hiding spots of bed bugs such as mattress corners, cracks, and sofa crevices. Leave the powder undisturbed for about 4 to 5 days and then clean it up thoroughly using a vacuum cleaner. This entire process should be repeated at least twice a week for best results.
Neem oil and neem leaves
Neem naturally possesses powerful anti-bacterial and pesticide properties that prove extremely effective in driving away bed bugs. To use this, mix neem oil with water, fill it in a spray bottle, and spray it across mattresses and wall crevices. Alternatively, you can boil fresh neem leaves in water and use that infused water to eradicate bed bugs effectively.
Strong aroma of clove and peppermint oil
Bed bugs utterly dislike the intense and pungent smell of cloves and peppermint. To implement this remedy, mix about 10 to 15 drops of peppermint or clove oil into a cup of water. Spray this prepared mixture over the areas affected by bed bugs. Due to this sharp fragrance, bed bugs run away immediately and new eggs fail to hatch.
The acidic nature of white vinegar
The acid present in vinegar helps a lot in eliminating bed bugs. To use it, white vinegar should be sprayed directly onto the infested spots and furniture cracks. Because of its strong odor and acidic nature, bed bugs begin to die off quickly.
