Classic 1990s Bollywood chartbusters continue to hold a special place in Hindi cinema. The hit track from the 1997 film Judwaa remains widely popular among audiences even today. Originally composed and performed by music director Anu Malik alongside singer Poornima, the legendary track received a modern update two decades later when the 2017 sequel Judwaa 2 arrived in theaters under the title Oonchi Hai Building 2.0.
Modified Lyrics and Audience Confusion
For the 2017 version, Anu Malik returned as the composer and also contributed his male vocals once again. However, the modified lyrics in the new edition created unexpected confusion among music listeners. The original 1997 phrasing 'Aaja aaja raja band baaja lekar aaja' was altered in 2017 to 'Aaja aaja raja mere swagger wale raja'. Due to the rapid delivery and pronunciation of the word 'swagger', numerous fans mistakenly heard it as 'sagar', interpreting the line as 'mere sagar wale raja' and leading to widespread discussion among listeners.
Star Cast Differences Across Two Decades
The evolution of the song also reflected the changing star cast across the two films. The 1997 original movie starred Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, and Rambha in lead roles. In contrast, the 2017 sequel featured Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Taapsee Pannu. Despite the lyric mix-up and public debate, the updated track became a major party anthem.
