Pankaj Tripathi's long-running streaming saga has finally stepped off the screen and into cinema halls, and the day one numbers suggest fans followed it there in large numbers. Mirzapur: The Movie has collected an estimated Rs 24.75 crore nett in India on its opening day, according to trade tracker Sacnilk, a debut strong enough to place it among the biggest Hindi releases of the year.
A Streaming Franchise Makes Its Theatrical Case
The film, headlined by Pankaj Tripathi alongside Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma and Ravi Kishan, opened in theatres on September 4. Mirzapur built its audience as a streaming show over multiple seasons, and turning that following into a paying theatrical crowd is never guaranteed. A Day 1 collection of this size shows that a large chunk of the show's existing viewers were willing to step out and watch the story on the big screen instead of waiting for a streaming release.
How The Rs 24.75 Crore Breaks Down
Most of the opening-day total came from the Hindi version of the film, which alone brought in an estimated Rs 24.60 crore nett. A Telugu version added a further Rs 15 lakh to the tally, pushing the combined India nett collection to the estimated Rs 24.75 crore figure. Looked at on a gross basis, which includes taxes, the film's opening-day collection across India stood at around Rs 29.70 crore. The gap between the nett and gross numbers is standard for the industry and does not change where the film stands in the day-one rankings.
Occupancy Rose Sharply Through The Day
Sacnilk's numbers put the film's overall Hindi occupancy at around 42.81% across 11,135 shows nationwide on opening day, but that average hides a clear pattern through the day. Morning shows opened relatively soft, with occupancy at around 25%, a level typical for a weekday first show. By the night slots, however, occupancy had climbed to nearly 62%, showing that walk-ins built steadily as word of the film's opening spread and as after-work and evening crowds turned up. That kind of late-day surge is often read by trade watchers as a sign of positive word of mouth working through the day rather than the film simply riding pre-release hype.
Fourth Place In A Crowded Year For Hindi Openers
An opening of Rs 24.75 crore is enough to put Mirzapur: The Movie in fourth place on the list of the biggest Hindi opening days of 2026. It has opened ahead of Awarapan 2, which had collected around Rs 22 crore on its first day, but it still sits behind Border 2, whose opening-day collection was close to Rs 30 crore. The top of the 2026 list remains unchanged for now: Dhurandhar The Revenge leads with a Rs 99 crore opening, followed by Toxic at Rs 55 crore and then Border 2 at Rs 30 crore. Landing at number four in that company underlines just how large the Mirzapur audience already was before the film even released.
An Adults-Only Certificate Didn't Hold Back Footfall
The film carries an 'A' certificate, meaning it is restricted to adult audiences and cannot be screened for anyone under 18 in cinemas. Certification of this kind usually narrows the potential audience for a film by cutting out family and younger viewers, yet the opening-day numbers show that restriction did little to slow footfall. The pull of familiar characters and the established popularity of the Mirzapur universe appear to have been strong enough to bring its core adult audience out in force on day one, with the evening occupancy figures suggesting that momentum was still building by the time the film had been running for a full day.
Numbers Are Early Estimates, Trackers Note
It is worth noting that Sacnilk's figures for the opening day are described as early estimates, a standard practice in the trade press before final, verified numbers are issued. These estimates can shift slightly as more complete data comes in from cinema chains through the day and into the following morning, though the broad picture, a strong Day 1 for the film across both its Hindi and Telugu versions, is unlikely to change. For a franchise built entirely on its streaming reputation, even a revised number close to Rs 24.75 crore nett would still count as a decisive theatrical opening.
