Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and actress Priyanka Chopra have shared screen space in only two films throughout their careers. Interestingly, both movies turned out to be blockbuster hits at the box office, yet audiences never got the chance to witness this popular pairing on screen again. The two actors first collaborated in the movie Don and later appeared together in Don 2.
The Blockbuster Start of the Don Franchise
Released in 2006, the film Don marked the first time Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra appeared together on the silver screen. This superhit movie was directed by Farhan Akhtar. The film featured Kareena Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan, and Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. It was a modern remake of Amitabh Bachchan's 1978 film of the same name. In this movie, Shah Rukh played the titular role of Don, while Priyanka Chopra was seen as Roma. The film showcased more action, suspense, and confrontation than romance between the two. Audiences loved Shah Rukh's stylish Don avatar and Priyanka's action-packed performance, making the film a major box office success.
Massive Success of Don 2 and Fan Expectations
Roughly five years after the success of the first film, Don 2 hit theaters in 2011. This time, the narrative was presented on a much grander scale, and the on-screen chemistry between Shah Rukh and Priyanka became a major talking point. The movie received an overwhelming response both in India and internationally, establishing Farhan Akhtar's franchise as a massive success. Alongside their high-octane action sequences, the chemistry between Priyanka and Shah Rukh in Don 2 was widely appreciated by viewers. Fans at the time strongly hoped that Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra would be seen together in other upcoming projects, but that never materialized.
Personal Life Rumors and Professional Separation
Around the time of Don 2's release, considerable chatter surrounded the personal closeness between Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra within the entertainment industry. Reports of their alleged affair remained in the headlines for a prolonged period. Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan were frequently spotted together at various events and gatherings, which further fueled these rumors. Since superstar Shah Rukh Khan was already a married family man, his proximity to Priyanka drew significant media attention. Amidst these persistent rumors and controversies, Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra never worked together again.
Priyanka's Hollywood Journey and Upcoming Varanasi Project
Following her 2019 film The Sky Is Pink, Priyanka Chopra transitioned toward Hollywood. She relocated to the United States and began a fresh chapter in her acting career internationally. Now, reports indicate that Priyanka Chopra is making her return with the film Varanasi, directed by SS Rajamouli. In this upcoming project, she is set to star alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. In Varanasi, the actress will once again be seen performing high-intensity action sequences.
