Actress Shehnaaz Gill, who built her name across the Punjabi film industry and Bollywood, is now opening up about her own love story as she promotes her upcoming film Ishqnama.
From reality TV star to leading lady
Shehnaaz Gill won over audiences with her candid personality, innocence and hard work, and became a household name after appearing on the reality show Bigg Boss 13. Since then she has been steadily carving out a space for herself in films. In a recent conversation with IANS, she spoke at length about her personal life, her love story and the responsibilities that come with playing a real character on screen.
Would a film on her life have a title yet?
During the conversation, Shehnaaz was asked what she would call her own love story, essentially her own version of an Ishqnama, if one were ever made. She declined to reveal any title for now. The actress said that whenever the right moment arrives, she will reveal the title of her own story herself. She added that if a film were ever made on her life, the story would turn out to be extremely interesting. In her own words, "When a film is made on my life, I feel it will be very interesting, and when that happens, I will reveal its title too."
Playing a real story on screen comes with responsibility
Talking about her character in Ishqnama, Shehnaaz Gill said that portraying a story rooted in real events comes with a heavy sense of responsibility for an actor. She said, "I feel that when a film is made on a true story, it becomes very important to take on that responsibility. I have tried my best to do justice to this responsibility with my full ability. I am confident that people will love my character." Her comments make clear that she approached the role with a great deal of seriousness and effort.
A love story set between 1981 and 1988
Ishqnama is said to be inspired by a true love story and follows the relationship between two characters named Nimma and Naseema. It is a period romantic drama, with its narrative set between the years 1981 and 1988. The story unfolds against the backdrop of the areas around the India-Pakistan border, capturing the circumstances and complicated relationships of that era.
