A significant government initiative has been launched in the Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh to empower fish farmers and boost commercial aquaculture across the region. Under the financial year 2026-27 framework, the State Fisheries Department is implementing six major welfare schemes aimed at providing financial grants, machinery, and logistics support. These programs cover everything from boat procurement subsidies to advanced aeration technology and insulated transport vehicles, with online registrations currently open for eligible applicants.
Six Comprehensive Schemes Launched for Aquaculture Development
The department has structured these welfare measures to assist both small-scale fishers and large commercial operators. For the 2026-27 fiscal term, the six featured initiatives include the Mukhyamantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and the Nishad Raj Boat Subsidy Yojana. To enhance production density through technology, the department is deploying the Aeration System Establishment Scheme for Intensive Aquaculture. Additionally, diversification is supported via the Pearl Cultivation Scheme and the Specific Species Fish Hatchery Establishment Scheme. To address post-harvest logistics, the Moped with Ice Box Scheme under the Fisheries Welfare Fund has also been made operational.
Subsidies Covered for Boats, Modern Machinery, and Transport
The primary focus of this subsidy drive is to upgrade infrastructure and improve production capacity for fish farmers. Commercial producers can access technical assistance to install pond aeration equipment that maintains optimal oxygen levels for high-density stocking. For transport and supply chain management, ice-box-fitted mopeds are being subsidized to ensure catch reaches markets without spoilage. Furthermore, traditional fishers operating in rivers and large water bodies receive financial aid for buying boats, enhancing both work safety and daily yield.
August 5 Application Deadline via Official Web Portal
Interested candidates must complete their registration through the department's dedicated digital portal at fisheries.up.gov.in. Addressing the application schedule, Fisheries Officer Aryan Tiwari advised eligible applicants to submit their forms well before August 5 to avoid last-minute portal slowdowns or technical complications. The digital workflow allows farmers to apply directly from their locations with minimal hassle.
Direct In-Person Support Available at Departmental Offices
Apart from the digital platform, fish farmers experiencing difficulty with online submission or seeking detailed guidance on scheme guidelines can visit the local department office directly. Officials and support staff are available to guide applicants through document verification and form completion. This dual approach ensures that rural applicants who may lack digital access or literacy can still avail themselves of the full benefit of these government welfare schemes.
