New Delhi. After a significant hiatus, the Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has restored access to its official portal. The website had remained inaccessible for approximately two weeks due to extensive technical upgrades and scheduled maintenance, causing widespread frustration for members attempting to verify their balances, file claims, or review account details. The organization has now confirmed that the login functionality is operational, and account holders can once again view their passbooks and statements online.
Partial Service Restoration
According to notices issued by the EPFO, the portal currently displays transaction history specifically for the current fiscal year. Data regarding transactions from previous years is not yet visible, as the organization is in the process of migrating old records to the upgraded system. EPFO officials have clarified that a data migration exercise has been underway since July 3. This is an automated process, and members are not required to submit any formal requests for their historical data, which is expected to appear in their passbooks within the coming days.
Interest Payout and Upcoming Milestones
Following the recent announcement regarding the interest rate of 8.25 percent for the previous fiscal year, the EPFO is preparing for a massive disbursement. Interest payments are scheduled to begin after July 15, directly benefiting approximately 80 million account holders. Once the ongoing migration work is finalized, members will be able to log in to their passbooks to track the credited interest amounts accurately.
The Timeline of the Extended Outage
The prolonged closure of the portal caused notable concern among the workforce. While the EPFO initially aimed to complete maintenance work by June 28 and resume services by June 29, the project faced technical hurdles that extended the outage by an additional 11 days. Despite the inconvenience, the system is now operational, and the organization is prioritizing the restoration of all standard services for its members.
Changes to UAN Activation
Alongside the system restoration, the EPFO has introduced a significant shift in how users manage their credentials. Account holders will no longer be able to activate their Universal Account Number (UAN) via the standard Unified Member Portal. Instead, the UAN generation process has been shifted exclusively to the UMANG mobile app. This move is designed to enhance security by leveraging Aadhaar-based face authentication technology. Detailed instructions regarding this updated procedure are being provided to users through the newly upgraded EPFO portal interface.
