Amid rising power demand and the global shift toward clean energy, solar power is rapidly emerging as a vital necessity for the future. From residential households to farmers and commercial enterprises, the adoption of solar panels has seen a significant surge. However, alongside this growing adoption, consumers frequently encounter obstacles related to scheme awareness, installation procedures, net metering delays, and delayed electricity bill updates. To resolve these operational challenges and streamline access to government incentives, key stakeholders held a comprehensive four-hour consultation session in Jodhpur.
Discom and SBI Senior Officials Provide Guidance
The interactive session was organized under the aegis of the Jodhpur Solar Society, bringing together operational experts, Discom officials, and senior representatives from the State Bank of India (SBI). The event aimed to guide vendors and consumers through government subsidy frameworks and financing options. Pritesh Mathur, President of the Jodhpur Solar Society, stated that the organization intends to collaborate with various institutions for similar initiatives in the future. Around 12 corporate sponsors set up informational stalls during the event. The society currently comprises nearly 115 active members and has established a target to expand its membership base to 150 by December. Furthermore, plans are underway to host a large scale Solar Expo, with complete details to be announced soon.
Net Metering Delays by Genus Company Cause Discontent
During the extensive four-hour deliberation, severe grievances concerning vendors and consumers affiliated with the Jodhpur Discom came to light. Ramchandra Choudhary, Patron of the society, highlighted the critical bottlenecks in net metering implementation. He attributed the ongoing delays to Genus company, noting that their failure to execute net metering on schedule has left system owners stranded. Even after physical installation, electricity bills remain unupdated for prolonged periods, depriving consumers of anticipated financial relief on power bills. Consequently, this administrative drag is hindering the overall growth momentum of the solar sector across the region.
Delegation to Meet Discom MD with One-Week Ultimatum
To ensure swift resolution, the Jodhpur Solar Society has drafted a concrete action plan. Ramchandra Choudhary announced that a representative delegation will meet the Managing Director (MD) of Jodhpur Discom within the next one to two days. If the utility management fails to address and resolve these operational issues within a one-week timeline, the society will formally escalate the matter to the Rajasthan State Government, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), and the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC).
