A significant initiative is taking shape in Khandwa, designed to provide substantial relief to individuals and families who face immense challenges in managing patient care at home following a hospital discharge. Often, recovering patients require various specialized medical devices such as oxygen machines, wheelchairs, walkers, or adjustable medical beds for their rehabilitation. Because these items carry high market prices, many families find it impossible to afford them, leading to severe difficulties in providing adequate home-based medical care.
Rotary Club's Strategic Initiative
Recognizing these hardships, the Rotary Club Khandwa Nimad has introduced a medical equipment bank in the city. This project operates under the broader mission of Rotary District 3040, which plans to establish approximately 50 such medical equipment banks across different regions. Each individual bank facility requires an investment of nearly 7 lakh rupees to become fully operational and equipped for public service.
Operations and Access
Lokesh Jhanwar, Chairman of the Medical Equipment Bank, noted that the facility would provide necessary equipment to patients for a duration of one month. To ensure that the service remains accessible to the widest possible audience, users are only charged a minimal sanitization fee. The responsibility for managing the daily operations of this project in the city has been entrusted to Dilip Patoudi. Additionally, Rotary Club President Govind Sharma has expressed intentions to expand the service in the coming future to ensure that support reaches as many vulnerable families as possible.
Community Collaboration
The success of this initiative is fueled by the active support of various community members who have come forward to contribute. Prominent individuals including Anoop Hinduja, Sushil Mandloi, Shahzad Qureshi, Sunil Bansal, Rajendra Chandmal Jain, and Satinder Singh Khandpure have played a crucial role by donating both funds and essential medical gear to propel the mission forward.
Facilities Offered
The medical bank is stocked to address a wide range of recovery needs. It features mechanized beds, which allow patients to adjust their positions comfortably without strain. For those requiring physical mobility support following surgery or prolonged weakness, wheelchairs and walkers are available. Furthermore, the inventory includes life-saving machines like oxygen concentrators and nebulizers to assist patients with respiratory complications. For patients confined to their beds for long durations, water beds are also provided to ensure better comfort and skin health.
Donation Opportunity
A notable aspect of this bank is the opportunity for residents to contribute. If individuals possess medical equipment at home that is no longer in use, they are encouraged to donate it to the bank. This act of kindness allows the equipment to be repurposed for another patient in need. This project stands as more than just a convenience; it serves as a robust pillar of support for the community, providing vital assistance exactly when it is needed most.
