Police officers from the Govindpuri police station in South-East Delhi have conducted a major operation against illicit drug trafficking, leading to the arrest of a foreign national. The accused has been identified as 36-year-old Jean Yapo, a citizen of the African nation Ivory Coast, who was currently residing in the Govindpuri area. Law enforcement authorities apprehended him while he was allegedly attempting to deliver a consignment of high-grade contraband on a stolen scooter.
Seizure of High-Grade Narcotics and Stolen Vehicle
During the physical search, officers recovered a total of 55.20 grams of high-grade narcotic substances from Yapo's possession. The seized contraband comprised 30.92 grams of cocaine, 11.20 grams of crystal MDMA, and 20 ecstasy tablets weighing 13.08 grams. Additionally, the scooter utilized by the suspect for drug distribution was found to be stolen property. Police verification confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Keshav Puram police station area back in 2024.
Night Patrol Interception and Arrest
The incident unfolded late in the night on 26 August 2026, at approximately 1:40 AM. A patrolling team from the Govindpuri police station spotted a suspicious foreign motorist heading toward Crown Plaza on Okhla Estate Road. When officers signaled the rider to stop, he accelerated in an attempt to evade capture. However, he lost balance, fell from the two-wheeler, and was swiftly secured by the police party. A thorough search led to the recovery of three packets containing illicit drugs.
Expired Visa and Legal Proceedings
Subsequent verification of official documents revealed that Yapo's Indian visa had expired in 2022. He had been residing in the country illegally without valid travel documents or legal authorization. Police registered a formal case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act under FIR No. 467/2026. Investigators are currently questioning the suspect to trace the broader supply chain, identifying key suppliers, buyers, and local contacts affiliated with the syndicate. This operation marks the fourth significant drug-related bust executed by the Govindpuri police within the past 25 days.
Previous Major Drug Crackdown in Delhi
This enforcement action comes on the heels of another major crackdown executed by Delhi Police earlier in 2026. In that operation, law enforcement busted an organized interstate drug smuggling network and arrested three individuals. Police seized 31 kilograms of Alprazolam tablets during the raid. That syndicate was actively involved in the illicit manufacture, transit, and distribution of psychotropic substances across Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and the National Capital Region (NCR).
