A major social welfare initiative aimed at providing lifelong security to marginalized individuals has commenced in Karjat, Maharashtra. Marking her birthday on November 1, Reliance Foundation founder and chairperson Nita Ambani joined Mukesh Ambani and their family on Sunday to lay the foundation stone for a sprawling care community. Named Nita Mukesh Ambani Anant Aashray, the development is designed to serve as a comprehensive home for orphaned children, senior citizens, and people living with developmental disabilities.
A 100-Acre Integrated Township Near Mumbai
The sanctuary is planned across 100 acres in the Karjat region adjacent to Mumbai. Following the traditional groundbreaking ceremonies, construction work is set to transform the plot into a self-sustaining township capable of sheltering more than 5,000 individuals indefinitely. The initiative focuses on moving beyond basic shelter to establish an environment centered on personal dignity and long-term purpose.
Residents across all wings of the campus will receive access to global-standard healthcare and personal assistance programs. For young residents growing up without parents, the village plans to deliver comprehensive educational pathways and life-skills training to help them pursue personal ambitions. Simultaneously, elderly residents will be integrated into community activities tailored to offer companionship and continuous healthcare support.
Empowering Marginalized Communities with Lifelong Care
Reflecting on the mission of the initiative, Nita Ambani shared that the project aims to create a deeply caring collective where orphan care, senior living, and lifelong facilities for both children and adults facing cognitive or physical challenges coexist seamlessly.
In a public reflection shared via an official post on social network X, she emphasized that every child inherently deserves protection, warmth, and care regardless of family circumstances. Speaking from the viewpoint of maternal responsibility, she highlighted that the sanctuary seeks to step in as a permanent family for those who have experienced bereavement or missed out on domestic security, ensuring elders receive respect while the young are granted genuine opportunities to thrive.
Specialized Programs for Developmental Needs
The township has designated distinct infrastructure for individuals managing chronic developmental conditions. Professional caregivers, therapeutic programs, and round-the-clock medical staff will assist residents requiring ongoing developmental therapy. By bridging critical gaps in institutional long-term care, the integrated Karjat center aims to offer an enduring safety net for people who otherwise lack family-based assistance.
