Savers looking for guaranteed returns are witnessing an intense race across India's banking sector as institutions roll out revised fixed deposit interest rates. Small finance banks have pulled significantly ahead of established public and private sector giants, providing substantial yields across several tailored tenures. By selecting the right institution and matching maturity periods with personal goals, depositors can now secure annual returns of up to 8.60 percent on their term deposits.
Suryoday Small Finance Bank Delivers Leading Returns
Leading the current yield table, Suryoday Small Finance Bank introduced its revised schedule on 30 October 2026. Under this structure, standard individual depositors placing funds for a five-year horizon earn an annual interest rate of 8.25 percent. For senior citizen depositors, the return on the same five-year deposit climbs to an impressive peak of 8.60 percent.
Depositors who prefer avoiding lengthy lock-in commitments can opt for intermediate horizons. Suryoday Small Finance Bank offers an 18-month tenure yielding 8.01 percent annually for general customers and 8.16 percent for senior citizens. This one-and-a-half-year bracket provides an effective middle ground for capital preservation combined with swift compounding.
Utkarsh Small Finance Bank Introduces 666-Day Window
Utkarsh Small Finance Bank updated its fixed deposit return rates on 1 November, rolling out an exclusive 666-day tenure. General investors committing funds to this custom maturity window receive an annual yield of 8.10 percent, while senior citizens obtain a boosted rate of 8.50 percent.
For deposits scheduled between two years and less than three years, Utkarsh Small Finance Bank provides 7.50 percent to regular depositors and 7.90 percent to senior citizens. These options give intermediate savers consistent payouts that comfortably eclipse conventional banking benchmarks.
Adjustments at Kotak Mahindra Bank and Axis Bank
Prominent private sector lenders have also adjusted their deposit schedules to stay relevant to retail investors. Kotak Mahindra Bank implemented changes to select deposit categories on 4 November, offering 6.80 percent for general savers and 7.55 percent for senior citizens on deposits maturing between two years and less than three years.
Meanwhile, Axis Bank provides a maximum interest rate of 6.60 percent to regular depositors across brackets ranging from two to ten years. For senior citizens holding tenures between five and ten years, Axis Bank delivers an elevated return reaching up to 7.35 percent.
Public Sector Options: PNB and Bank of India
State-run lenders continue to compete with dedicated products. Punjab National Bank provides 6.60 percent to general depositors and 7.10 percent to senior citizens through its custom 444-day fixed deposit framework.
Bank of India has introduced its BOI Akshaya FD scheme for aggregate balances below 3 crore rupees. This product delivers 6.85 percent to general depositors, 7.35 percent to senior citizens aged between 60 and 80 years, and 7.50 percent to super senior citizens above 80 years of age.
Evaluating Liquidity and Tax Considerations Before Investing
High headline interest rates represent only one facet of a sound deposit strategy. Investors must ensure that selected tenure windows mirror their broader cash flow requirements. Reviewing premature withdrawal clauses and penalty structures is critical before locking away financial resources.
Tax implications must also be integrated into final yield calculations. Interest earned on bank fixed deposits is not entirely exempt from tax liabilities. The accrued earnings are added directly to the depositor's gross taxable income and taxed according to their respective income tax slabs.
