Jyoti Kurre, a resident of village panchayat Bohardih in the Masturi development block of Bilaspur district in Chhattisgarh, has set a remarkable example of self-employment through sheer hard work, dedication, and proper guidance. The career path she chose not only strengthened her family's financial condition but also made her a role model for other women in her village. After connecting with the Chhattisgarh State Rural Livelihood Mission, known as Bihane, Jyoti started a business raising chickens, ducks, and quails. Making the best use of group support and bank loan facilities, she expanded her livelihood operations significantly. Today, by combining animal husbandry with running a local grocery store, she earns an annual income of approximately three lakh rupees.
Joining the Sagar Mahila Swasthayata Samuha and Securing Financial Aid
Jyoti Kurre is an active member of the Sagar Mahila Swasthayata Samuha operating in her village. After linking with the livelihood mission, she received crucial mentorship for entrepreneurship. Through the women's group, she obtained a bank loan and initiated poultry and duck farming ventures. Gradually, as her confidence grew, she expanded her business further by incorporating quail farming into her daily operations, diversifying her agricultural output.
Steady Income Through Egg Sales at Local and Wholesale Levels
The eggs produced by the chickens, ducks, and quails raised by Jyoti are sold extensively at the local level. Alongside selling eggs directly within her village, she also engages in wholesale egg distribution. This provides her with a regular and dependable income stream, turning her self-employment venture into a robust financial pillar for her household.
Expanding Revenue Streams with a Grocery Store
Jyoti did not limit herself solely to animal husbandry. To create an additional source of income, she also launched and managed a grocery store. By pooling the earnings generated from poultry farming, the egg trade, and her retail grocery shop, she successfully brings in about three lakh rupees every year.
