Kaif says he has never seen Team India management this confused after England series rout

After India's heavy T20 series defeat to England, former batter Mohammad Kaif has slammed Team India's management, calling the handling of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sanju Samson unprofessional.

Days after India's T20 World Cup 2026 triumph, the team suffered a lopsided defeat in the T20 series against England, and former India batter Mohammad Kaif has now openly questioned the team management's decisions. Kaif said he has never seen the Indian team management look this confused before.

Kaif's blunt post on X

Mohammad Kaif took to his X account to say he has never seen the Indian cricket team management in as much confusion and disarray as it appears to be in now. His remarks came right after India's failed tour of England, where the team management's calls were already facing sharp criticism.

Never seen a more confused Indian cricket team management. The handling of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sanju Samson has been far from professional. One is a generational talent, another World Cup winner, they need to be given confidence not doubts in their minds.

Sooryavanshi and Samson deserved better, says Kaif

Kaif went on to write that the way Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sanju Samson were handled was anything but professional. According to him, one of the two players carries the talent of an entire generation, while the other has already won a World Cup for India. Kaif said players of that calibre need to be given confidence, not left second-guessing themselves.

No wins in either series

After winning the T20 World Cup 2026, the Indian team travelled for a series of 2 T20 matches against Ireland and 5 T20 matches against England. Strikingly, Team India could not manage a single win in either country and suffered heavy defeats in both series. Both tours saw constant changes to the playing eleven, which is exactly what put the coach and the captain in the firing line.

Samson and Sooryavanshi kept swapping places

Sanju Samson failed to score runs in both matches against Ireland and in the first T20 against England as well. Following that, the team management dropped Samson and gave Vaibhav Sooryavanshi a chance in the second T20 against England. But Vaibhav also flopped in three consecutive innings, after which Samson was recalled for the fifth and final T20. This constant chopping and changing at the top of the order made it clear that neither the team nor the two batters could find any consistency in their performances.

England climbs to No. 1, Zimbabwe up next

These management calls had a direct bearing on the results too. England thrashed India 4-0 in the T20 series and, on the back of that, climbed to the top of the T20 rankings. India's next assignment is a tour of Zimbabwe, where 3 T20 matches will be played. Before that tour, the Indian team management will clearly need to have a serious rethink on both the playing eleven and its overall strategy, if it wants to break out of this run of defeats and confusion.
