Cricket fever is once again reaching its absolute peak in the city of Kanpur as the second and most crucial leg of the fourth season of the UP T-20 League gets underway at the historic Green Park Stadium. While the initial phase of the league was hosted at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium, all remaining matches are now being held in Kanpur. This marks the first time that the UP T-20 league is being organized across two different cities. Following twenty-two matches in Lucknow, a total of twelve games are scheduled to be played in Kanpur, which includes the playoffs and the grand finale slated for September 6.
Lucky Draws and Grand Prizes for Spectators
To make this fourth season exceptionally special for fans, the organizers have lined up entertainment and rewards alongside the cricketing action. Sanjeev Kumar Singh, a member of the UP T-20 League Governing Council, stated that for the very first time, spectators visiting Green Park to watch the matches will get a golden opportunity to win major prizes through a lucky draw. The prize pool features several attractive rewards including motorcycles, televisions, refrigerators, and smartphones. This means fans will not only enjoy the thrill of boundaries and sixes on the field, but they might also strike it lucky in the stands.
Entertainment and Advanced Rain Preparation at the Venue
To draw large crowds to the stadium, organizers are also roping in celebrities and various entertainment programs to ensure the atmosphere at Green Park remains thoroughly charged with cricketing enthusiasm. Six teams are participating in this season of the UP T-20 league, with a total of thirty-four matches scheduled across the tournament. With the weather in Kanpur currently experiencing rainy spells, special arrangements have been put in place at Green Park to protect the fixtures from weather disruptions. Organizers and ground officials have ensured that normal rainfall will not cause prolonged stoppages, with swift drainage systems deployed to dry the turf and make it playable as soon as the showers stop.
Technical Adjustments to Prevent Waterlogging
To minimize waterlogging issues at Green Park, digital LED advertising boards placed around the boundary line have been elevated to ensure smooth water flow and drainage, which helps prevent water accumulation on the playing surface. According to the organizers, matches will only be halted in the event of heavy downpours, and the ground staff will remain continuously active to prepare the field promptly once the rain clears. This ensures relief for both the players and the audience while keeping unnecessary delays in the matches to an absolute minimum.
Full Schedule of the Kanpur Leg
The Kanpur leg officially commenced on August 28. Following the remaining league matches at Green Park, the playoff encounters will kick off on September 3. After Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator, Qualifier 2 will take place on September 4, leading up to the grand finale of the fourth season of the UP T-20 League on September 6 right at Green Park. This time, Green Park has been entrusted not just with hosting regular matches, but with managing the entire decisive phase of the tournament. Consequently, cricket enthusiasts in Kanpur have a massive opportunity to witness their favorite teams and players up close.
