A sharp disagreement between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the organizers of the World Championship of Legends 2026 has brought Pakistan's campaign to an abrupt halt. The cricket board had laid down specific preconditions before granting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Pakistan Champions squad, all of which were firmly turned down by the event management. Due to this ongoing deadlock, the Pakistani side has not featured in a single fixture so far, forcing officials to call off their first two scheduled matches.
The Two Conditions Put Forward by the Board
To clear the team's participation, the PCB tabled two distinct stipulations before the tournament management. The first condition proposed that Pakistan would have no objections to participating if Indian cricketers were not involved in the competition. The second demand insisted that Indian players submit a formal written apology for not participating in last year's fixture, alongside an agreement ensuring mandatory handshakes between both squads on the field during the match.
Organizers Turn Down Apology Demand and Handshake Mandate
Tournament officials refused to accommodate the board's demands, taking the stance that arbitrary conditions cannot be imposed on individual teams or participating players. While the event organizers agreed to financial and monetary terms, they categorically dismissed the demand for written apologies and enforced handshakes from the Indian side. The PCB maintained that the team would only be cleared once its demands were met in full, to which tournament authorities responded by rejecting the terms outright, casting serious doubt over Pakistan's remaining fixtures in the competition.
Opening Fixtures Scrapped with High-Profile Clash in Jeopardy
Although the 2026 edition of the World Championship of Legends commenced on October 3, Pakistan has yet to take the field. Their opening fixture against Bangladesh on October 3 was abandoned as the team did not appear, and a subsequent encounter against Australia on October 5 was also cancelled. Pakistan is slated to face India on October 10, but the continuing impasse makes the staging of this marquee contest highly unlikely. Meanwhile, the Indian team has already completed two matches in the tournament, recording one victory and one defeat, highlighted by an opening game where Yuvraj Singh struck 6 sixes during a 71-run knock at a strike rate of 161.
