A 25-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh has been arrested in South-West Delhi after allegedly blackmailing a young girl for nearly two years using artificial intelligence technology to create fake explicit photographs. The accused initially befriended the victim after she shared personal photos on social media while she was still a minor. Police registered a case under multiple severe legal provisions, including the POCSO Act, after the victim filed a written complaint upon reaching adulthood.
The Digital Trap and AI Blackmail Scheme
The ordeal began in December 2023 when the victim, then a minor, uploaded general photographs onto her social media accounts. The suspect, identified as Ajay Dubey, initiated contact by praising her photos and starting direct conversations. As communication progressed to regular phone calls, the victim shared additional photographs. Exploiting these images, Dubey used AI tools to fabricate explicit fake nude pictures. He subsequently threatened to publish the forged photos online unless she paid him money. Fearful of social humiliation, the victim transferred a total of ₹1.2 lakh from her mother’s bank account to the accused over a two-year period without revealing the matter to her family.
Escalating Intimidation and Threat of Acid Attack
The harassment worsened over time. In January 2025, the suspect started using severe verbal abuse and intimidation during phone conversations. In July 2025, Dubey confronted the victim in person, reiterating his threats to circulate the fake photographs. Earlier this month, the accused began targeting the victim's family, calling her father and uncle to hurl abuse and demands. He issued threats to launch an acid attack against the family if they failed to comply. Upon noticing the unexplained bank transfers, the victim's father learned of the ongoing extortion, prompting the family to seek police intervention.
Police Investigation and Criminal History
Following the written complaint lodged at the Mohan Garden police station last week, law enforcement officers arrested the suspect. Police registered an FIR under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 79 for acts intended to insult the modesty of a woman, Section 351(2) for criminal intimidation, Section 308 for extortion, alongside Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Investigation revealed that 25-year-old Ajay Dubey, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, has a prior criminal record. He was previously booked in 2019 at Nihal Vihar police station for house-trespass and causing hurt, followed by charges in 2020 at Nangloi police station involving criminal intimidation and attempt to murder.
