Delhi Police personnel brutally attacked with chilli powder and bricks during bike seizure

Police personnel on duty in Delhi's Bhalswa Dairy area were assaulted with chilli powder and bricks after a dispute over a seized motorcycle. Multiple officers sustained injuries while one minor has been apprehended.

A shocking incident of violent assault on law enforcement officers has emerged from the national capital, where on-duty police personnel were targeted and beaten mercilessly. The brutal episode took place in the Janta Vihar area of Mukundpur, falling under the jurisdiction of the Bhalswa Dairy police station in Delhi. The violent confrontation unfolded on August 22, a Saturday, at around 3 PM, as a group of individuals launched a ferocious attack on the police team.

Dispute triggered by a motorcycle seizure

The sequence of events began during routine patrolling and vehicle checking in the locality. Head Constable Dinesh and Head Constable Rajesh, serving as beat staff, intercepted a motorcycle that lacked valid registration documents. Adhering to protocol, the officers seized the vehicle and brought it in. At around 3:30 PM, the owner of the motorcycle, accompanied by family members, arrived at the scene to protest the police action and demand the release of the vehicle, which quickly escalated into a tense confrontation.

As the argument intensified, the assailants resorted to extreme measures. According to investigators, the attackers threw chilli powder directly into the eyes of the police officers to blind them momentarily. Following this, the culprits, including a woman and a minor, began thrashing the personnel with bricks and wooden sticks. When Head Constable Tinu rushed to the spot to assist his colleagues, the mob attacked him as well. The violent assault left several police officers injured, and they were promptly rushed to a hospital for medical treatment.

Main suspect has a history of criminal cases

Law enforcement agencies moved swiftly following the incident. With the help of local residents, police managed to apprehend a 17-year-old minor from the spot, while the other suspects managed to flee before authorities could secure the area. Police investigations revealed that the main absconding suspect, Sunil alias Pankaj, is a listed bad character in the neighbourhood. According to police records, Sunil already has five criminal cases registered against him, which includes two cases under the NDPS Act. Special teams have been deployed to conduct raids and apprehend the remaining absconding culprits.
