A shocking incident has emerged from a village in the Mudalagi taluka of Karnataka's Belagavi district, where a trivial dinner table argument turned deadly over food distribution. The victim, identified as Seetharam, hailed from Kabirganj village in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit district and worked at a local steel company in Mudalagi.
How the tragic altercation unfolded
According to local law enforcement, both the victim and the accused, Arun Kumar, belonged to the same native village and were employed at the same workplace in Mudalagi. The two men were hosting a chicken feast together on Sunday. The confrontation started when Seetharam questioned Arun Kumar for consuming a larger share of the chicken pieces during the meal.
The verbal spat quickly escalated into extreme violence when Arun allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Seetharam in the chest. In a bid to cover up the crime, Arun himself transported the injured victim to the Gokak government hospital, attempting to mislead people by claiming that Seetharam had accidentally fallen from a building.
Police investigation and legal action
Authorities at the Ghataprabha police station intervened, detained Arun Kumar for questioning, and during the interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime. Despite being rushed to the medical facility, Seetharam succumbed to his injuries. A murder case has been officially registered at the Ghataprabha police station, leaving the local community stunned by how a minor dietary dispute could lead to the loss of a life.
Understanding chicken portions and sizing
The incident also highlights how culinary portions are portioned during meals. A whole chicken does not come with a fixed number of pieces, as the count entirely depends on the cutting style and the specific recipe being prepared. Generally, a standard whole bird yields about eight portions, including two breasts, two thighs, two drumsticks, and two wings. However, when preparing traditional Indian curries or biryanis, the number of pieces can range from eight to twelve or even sixteen smaller cuts depending on regional cooking preferences.
This follows other serious violent incidents reported across the region, including an earlier case involving a doctor's murder in Karnataka where a son sustained injuries and a wife was taken into custody under mysterious circumstances. In another troubling event, the body of a Dalit young woman was recovered from a well after a suspected murder, prompting her father to raise allegations of sexual assault.
