SpaceX has been the talk of the markets lately, thanks to its record-breaking IPO (initial public offering). The event wasn't just the largest IPO in financial history — it also pushed Elon Musk past a milestone no one had ever crossed, making him the world's first trillionaire. But for one particular crowd, there's an even more exciting angle to the story: the company's long-running relationship with Dogecoin (DOGE).
Musk's Long History With Dogecoin
Musk is one of the most vocal DOGE supporters around, and he has backed that up in practice — at one point letting users buy Tesla and SpaceX merchandise with the memecoin. Now SpaceX is going a step further. The company is gearing up to launch a satellite called Doge-1, and what makes it stand out is that the entire mission was funded using Dogecoin (DOGE). The big question is when that launch will actually take place.
What the Doge-1 Mission Is About
The Doge-1 satellite mission is run by Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC). The project was first announced back in May 2021, but it has slipped past several delays over the past few years. Doge-1 will ride to space aboard a Falcon 9 rocket, where it is set to gather lunar-spatial intelligence. The satellite is also expected to carry a screen capable of displaying advertisements, images and logos — visuals that would then be broadcast back to Earth.
The Scheduled Launch Date
According to the project's official website, the Dogecoin-funded Doge-1 satellite is set to lift off on September 14, 2026. A successful launch could well spark a price rally for the memecoin.
The Plan to Put a Dogecoin on the Moon
Musk has also said in the past that he intends to place an actual Dogecoin on the Moon. When someone asked on X when he planned to do it, he answered that it might happen sometime in 2027. That said, the trillionaire could now rethink the timing and simply send the coin up on the same Falcon 9 rocket carrying the Doge-1 satellite — a pairing that would feel rather fitting.
Why It Could Move the Price
Musk's affection for Dogecoin (DOGE) is no secret. His social media posts about dogs or the memecoin frequently trigger sudden price spikes. If the Doge-1 mission succeeds and Musk follows through on his promise to put a Dogecoin on the Moon, the memecoin could even push toward a fresh all-time high.
