Hyperliquid Strategies has officially submitted an application to become a Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) in the United States, aiming to introduce compliant perpetual futures trading to American investors through the Hyperliquid blockchain infrastructure. Despite this strategic regulatory milestone, the protocol's native token, HYPE, experienced an 8% decline over 24 hours, sliding to $77 after massive profit-taking by major token holders clipped its recent rally.
US FCM Application and Institutional Framework
The FCM registration filing by Hyperliquid Strategies represents a major effort to bring decentralized financial products into alignment with US regulations. Under the proposed structure, independent market operators would be able to launch and manage trading pairs on Hyperliquid's infrastructure while maintaining full compliance with applicable US regulatory frameworks. Crucially, the underlying Hyperliquid blockchain will remain an independent and neutral infrastructure layer.
Hyperliquid Strategies Chief Executive Officer David Schamis confirmed that the firm deployed $802 million during the third quarter as part of its overarching strategy to bring trading markets onshore. Schamis explained that owning HYPE represents the primary method to capture the economic value generated by the underlying protocol, while establishing an FCM serves as the operational vehicle to bring decentralized markets under regulated oversight within the United States.
Third-Quarter Financial Growth and Treasury Metrics
The regulatory filing accompanied Hyperliquid Strategies' Q3 financial updates, which highlighted substantial capital accumulation. The company successfully raised $911 million in equity capital during the quarter. From these funds, $785 million was allocated to purchase 9.1 million HYPE tokens, while $17 million was deployed to execute a buyback of 2.7 million PURR shares.
These strategic allocations expanded the corporate treasury significantly. The company's total HYPE holdings grew from 29.3 million tokens in June to approximately 38.5 million HYPE tokens by September 30. Furthermore, Hyperliquid Strategies reported a robust liquid balance sheet holding $254.6 million in cash and cash-equivalent instruments, while maintaining zero debt obligations.
Whale Liquidations Dampen Rally Following $97 Peak
HYPE's recent downward trajectory follows a sharp price surge that briefly pushed the token to a high of $97. That rally was largely energized by news that prominent billionaire investor Stanley Druckenmiller invested in Trade[XYZ], a trading platform operating on top of Hyperliquid's protocol.
However, analytics from Score Arena and Santiment revealed that several key whale addresses systematically exited their positions near the peak. One wallet, which had been accumulating HYPE tokens since late May, completely liquidated its 310,000 HYPE position. The address executed automated sales of approximately $225,000 worth of HYPE every five minutes while prices fluctuated between $94 and $95, realizing roughly $2.4 million in net profits.
Two additional high-net-worth wallets completed massive exits shortly thereafter. One address unloaded 98,000 HYPE tokens to harvest approximately $987,000 in trading gains, while another secured nearly $1 million in profit by selling roughly 140,000 HYPE tokens.
Technical Indicators and Key HYPE Price Levels
Trading at $77, HYPE remains positioned below its short- and medium-term Exponential Moving Averages (EMAs) on the daily price chart, reinforcing a near-term bearish outlook. Momentum indicators reflect limited buying pressure, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) standing at 41 and the Stochastic Oscillator holding near 15 following rejection at the descending trendline.
On the downside, initial technical support is positioned at the horizontal level of $75.69. If selling pressure intensifies, further downside buffers sit at $67.63 and $61.16. To the upside, the primary technical barrier is the 100-day EMA at $78.10. Beyond that, a key resistance cluster forms around the 20-day and 50-day EMAs between $82.33 and $82.51, followed by higher hurdles at $85.04 and the previous peak of $97.84.
Broader Cryptocurrency Market Environment
The retracement in HYPE coincided with wider market weakness across major digital assets. Cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple faced renewed selling pressure amid broader regulatory uncertainties. In contrast, Zcash displayed resilience above the $1,300 mark, supported by anticipation surrounding its Network Upgrade 7, which enhances payment efficiency and retires legacy transaction structures.
