During the Diamond States Summit Rajasthan held in Jaipur, Congress leader Sachin Pilot made a sharp statement concerning Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He demanded that a comprehensive review must be conducted of all election results across the nation that took place during the tenure of Gyanesh Kumar. Pilot stated from the platform that the evaluation should not be restricted to any single state or a specific constituency, but must cover every place where the party won or suffered a defeat in the polls.
This statement is being viewed as significant amid ongoing questions raised by the opposition regarding the functioning of the election commission. Emphasizing that conducting impartial elections is vital for a vibrant democracy, Pilot noted that all political entities must receive equal opportunities within the electoral framework. Using a sports analogy, he remarked that a fair contest is impossible if the umpire itself lacks neutrality, adding that a fair fight and the credibility of the entire process must be maintained at all costs.
Pilot also raised concerns surrounding the SIR process. Pointing out that the procedure has been ongoing since 1952, he questioned why it is generating so much controversy today, calling it a natural inquiry. He reiterated that the electoral system ought to be impartial, yet current circumstances suggest otherwise. Remarking that the future will reveal what kind of atmosphere originated from the Ramlila Maidan, he expressed full faith in the Supreme Court and the judiciary. He further accused the central government of arrogance regarding the display of power, stating that the consequences will be witnessed by the entire nation.
Demands Halt On Lathicharge And Pellet Guns During Protests
At the same summit, Sachin Pilot addressed police actions during public demonstrations and raised sharp questions. He asserted that police lathicharges must be stopped immediately and the use of pellet guns must be prohibited. Maintaining that dialogue is essential in a democracy, he stressed that the primary responsibility for initiating communication lies with the government. Pilot warned that prevailing conditions are fostering a growing sense of insecurity among the youth of the country.
Accusing the ruling party of seeking absolute control over everything, Pilot noted that the opposition is actively resisting this approach, and Rahul Gandhi is confronting this exact challenge. He emphasized that the dignity of the nation's constitutional institutions must be preserved, urging that society should learn from past mistakes and correct historical errors. According to Pilot, institutional impartiality and public trust remain the most critical pillars of any democratic setup.
