Delhi Police has addressed the public debate and conflicting claims surrounding a violent clash that occurred during a protest at Jantar Mantar, involving members of the Cockroach Janta Party. The demonstration, organized to protest against the NEET paper leak, resulted in injuries to a 38-year-old participant named Sanjay Kumar, triggering widespread discussions and criticism from party representatives regarding the handling of the case.
According to official details released by law enforcement, the incident took place on June 23, 2026. During a scuffle that broke out at the protest site, Sanjay Kumar sustained an injury to his head. Police investigation and initial findings indicated that the wound was caused accidentally by a metallic bracelet worn by an individual during the physical altercation rather than by any premeditated weapon.
Medical Examination and Rebuttal of Severe Injury Claims
Following the altercation, Kumar was immediately taken to the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for a thorough medical examination. Police stated that the medical opinion provided by attending doctors categorized the injuries as simple in nature. This official clarification directly countered viral social media assertions claiming that the victim had suffered a fractured skull or severe cranial damage, as the hospital's medico-legal certificate report did not support such extreme medical conclusions.

In response to a formal complaint filed by the victim, the Parliament Street police station registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities confirmed that individuals present at the scene were detained immediately after the clash. As the investigation progressed, two individuals, identified as 24-year-old Suraj Kumar and 21-year-old Swatantra Bhardwaj, were issued formal notices and interrogated in accordance with standard legal procedures.
Addressing allegations of external influence, law enforcement officials maintained that the investigation has been conducted strictly according to established legal frameworks without any political pressure or administrative interference.

Meanwhile, Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Sourabh Das took to his X account to voice strong dissatisfaction with the police handling of the case. Das claimed that the head injury sustained by the victim was severe enough to warrant the inclusion of attempted murder charges in the First Information Report. He alleged that law enforcement deliberately avoided incorporating stricter legal provisions to prevent immediate arrests.
Das further accused local police leadership of dismissing requests to apply alternate severe hurt provisions and alleged that associates of the accused were publicly boasting about ministerial pressure being exerted on the police force to shield the suspects from arrest.
