A UP village council rep just built students a free library so they don't have to travel for coaching

In Mau district's Yaqubpur village, gram pradhan representative Gyanendra Pratap Singh has set up a free library and computer room worth around Rs 15 lakh under the CM Protsahan Yojana, sparing local students the daily trip to distant coaching centres.

Students preparing for competitive exams in Yaqubpur village of Uttar Pradesh's Mau district will no longer have to travel out of the village for coaching or library access. In this gram panchayat under the Muhammadabad Gohna block, gram pradhan representative Gyanendra Pratap Singh has set a new example by opening a free library and computer room right inside the village.

Until now, the biggest problem for students here was having to travel nearly four to five kilometres to prepare for competitive exams. They paid a monthly fee at those centres just to study. The daily commute was not easy, and families always carried the fear that something untoward could happen to their children while travelling back and forth. With the library now open in the village itself, that worry has been put to rest.

Funds came through the CM Protsahan Yojana

Speaking to Local 18, gram pradhan representative Gyanendra Pratap Singh said that funds received under the CM Protsahan Yojana for the financial year 2023-24 were used to construct a modern panchayat bhavan, a library, a computer room and an office in the village. Seeing the difficulties faced by the village's children in their studies, he decided to use this scheme's funds to set up the library and computer room.

Chairs, computers, Wi-Fi and even AC

The library and computer room were built at a cost of around Rs 15 lakh. Every modern facility has been provided here so that students can prepare for competitive exams or other studies while sitting in the village itself, without having to spend extra money travelling outside. Chairs have been arranged for seating, computers have been set up, and Wi-Fi internet facility has also been provided. So that students don't feel the heat while studying, air conditioners have been installed in the rooms. The same preparation that once required travelling far away can now be done sitting right in the village.

Only five villages selected in the district so far

This modern library and computer room has been built under the CM Protsahan Yojana, and so far only five villages in Mau district have been selected for this scheme. Yaqubpur is the first village in the Muhammadabad Gohna block area where students no longer need to rely on a private library for any kind of exam preparation. With a free library facility now available in the village itself, students can do all their preparation here and go on to secure jobs later.

Representative says he had to fight hard for the scheme

The gram pradhan representative says he had to struggle quite a bit to bring this scheme to the village. His goal throughout was to secure a better future for the village's children and help the village progress in every field. For the students of Yaqubpur, this library has now become a sturdy step towards realising their dreams.

What this means for you

This story doesn't move your wallet directly, but it does show how rural education infrastructure is changing.

  • Across India: Schemes like the CM Protsahan Yojana offer a working model for strengthening basic education facilities in villages, one that panchayats in other states could replicate.
  • In Mau: Students in Yaqubpur and nearby villages no longer need to spend money every month and travel four to five kilometres just to prepare for competitive exams.

Inspiration & Lessons

Gram pradhan representative Gyanendra Pratap Singh's initiative in Yaqubpur shows how the right intent and effort can bring real change even at the village level.

  • Spot the real problem first: He recognised the actual hardship faced by the village's children, travelling far and paying monthly fees just to prepare for exams.
  • Put government schemes to real use: Funds received under the CM Protsahan Yojana were directed straight into work that shapes children's futures.
  • Persistence pays off: The representative himself says he had to work hard to bring this scheme to the village.
  • Facilities matter as much as the building: By adding chairs, computers, Wi-Fi and even air conditioning, he made sure the village library matches what a private coaching centre offers.
