A major milestone has been reached in Assam’s educational landscape as Chandra Kamal Bezbaruah College (CKB College) located in Teok has officially been granted autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC). This prestigious recognition marks a defining moment for the institution, paving the way for enhanced academic freedom and elevated educational standards.

Following the announcement, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu reached out to the entire college community to extend his heartfelt congratulations. Writing on X, he praised the faculty, students, alumni, and staff, emphasizing that this achievement stands as a direct reflection of the institution's unwavering commitment to academic excellence.
New Pathways For Growth And Innovation
The newly acquired autonomous status is anticipated to grant the college greater academic flexibility, enabling administration and faculty to further develop and strengthen their educational programs. Expressing optimism for the future, the education minister noted his hope that this transition would unlock fresh avenues for institutional growth, continuous innovation, and the holistic development of every student enrolled.
Location And Historical Background
Situated conveniently by the side of National Highway No. 715 in Jorhat, CKB College, Teok operates as a co-educational institution providing academic programs across both Arts and Commerce streams. The institution has a rich history of serving the local student population, with its Arts stream having been brought under the deficit system back in the year 1972, followed by the Commerce stream achieving the same recognition in 1996.
Current Institutional Strength
At present, the college boasts a vibrant campus community comprising 1,500 active students. To maintain high teaching standards, the academic staff includes 34 permanent Associate and Assistant Professors, alongside 14 teachers appointed on an adhoc basis. Additionally, the daily operations and administrative needs of the institution are supported by a dedicated team of 13 non-teaching employees.
