Famous Bengali film actor Kharaj Mukherjee has been stranded in Nepal following severe rainstorms and unexpected flooding while shooting for an upcoming movie project near the international border with China. The production schedule faced complete disruption due to inclement weather conditions, leaving the actor unable to return home on his scheduled departure date. Although his family members initially experienced intense anxiety when communication was briefly lost, they have since re-established contact and confirmed his safety as he prepares for a multi-stage journey back to Kolkata.
Unfavorable Weather Interrupts Movie Production Near Border
Kharaj Mukherjee traveled to Nepal on 20 August to participate in location filming for an upcoming cinematic project. The production team had set up their location in Rasuwa district, a remote mountainous region positioned close to the Nepal-China border line. Shortly after their arrival, relentless downpours inundated the surrounding terrain, preventing any camera work or outdoor filming activities for two to three days.
The persistent torrential rains severely disrupted the overall shooting itinerary. With filming completely halted and local conditions worsening, the original travel plans were rendered impossible. The actor was initially slated to conclude his schedule and head back home between 23 August and 24 August, but the severe atmospheric disruption forced an indefinite postponement of his return.
Heavy Rains Trigger Landslides and Infrastructure Damage
The continuous rainfall across the high-altitude terrain caused water levels in local rivers to rise rapidly, overflowing their banks and triggering widespread flooding alongside hazardous landslides throughout the mountainous territory. Consequently, several key roadways and bridges sustained serious structural damage, cutting off transit options across multiple rural districts.
With transportation routes severely compromised and hazardous conditions prevailing near the border region, the film crew was forced to suspend operations entirely. Navigating out of the remote location presented significant logistical hurdles for the entire cast and technical crew, directly resulting in the delay of the actor's journey home.
Family Relieved After Re-establishing Contact
Back in India, the actor's family grew increasingly alarmed when reports of devastating floods in Nepal began to circulate while all communications with him were temporarily cut off. His elder brother, Sriraj Mukherjee, explained that the unexpected weather crisis derailed the entire shooting schedule, keeping him beyond his planned timeline. However, relief arrived after phone connectivity was restored and the actor informed his relatives that he remained completely safe amidst the flooding.
Echoing these concerns, his sister-in-law Saswati shared how the family endured moments of deep anxiety upon hearing about the worsening flood scenario in Nepal. She noted that while learning of his safety provided temporary reassurance, the family will remain anxious until he safely steps foot inside their family home.
Return Route Planned Via Pokhara and Gorakhpur
With local travel gradually being organized, the actor is planning his return journey by traveling from Pokhara toward the Indian border town of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. From Gorakhpur, he will catch onward transit to reach Kolkata. His family members expressed their continuous prayers for his swift and safe arrival back home.
