Global music icon Ed Sheeran has stepped into the world of Indian cinema with a unique vocal performance in the upcoming feature King, headlined by superstar Shah Rukh Khan. The British singer-songwriter can be heard delivering Hindi lines in a fresh musical track titled 'Tu Mil Jaye.' Sheeran offered audiences a look behind the curtain by sharing a behind-the-scenes recording clip on Instagram, accompanying the video with an extensive narrative about his creative process, his musical session, and his evolving personal camaraderie with the Bollywood actor. The entire collaboration originated during the artist's previous concert tour across India.
How a Mumbai Home Visit Sparked the Collaboration
Reflecting on the initial spark that ignited the musical piece, Sheeran revealed that the opportunity materialized during his stay in the country when he visited the superstar's residence. The original agenda for the visit was to film a cameo appearance featuring the actor for the music video of the singer's track titled 'Sapphire.' During that conversation, the actor proposed the idea of creating a song for his upcoming cinematic venture, marking what would become the British artist's debut Bollywood number. Over subsequent years, the two personalities developed a close acquaintance and mutual admiration, paving the way for spontaneous creative work.
Late-Night Studio Session with Sachin-Jigar and Arijit Singh
The casual evening quickly turned into an active recording session once the actor introduced the pop star to the renowned music composer duo Sachin-Jigar. Events moved at a rapid pace from that moment onward. Sheeran noted that on the very evening of their introduction, he wrote his designated section and wrapped up the vocal tracking for 'Tu Mil Jaye.' The song also features vocal contributions from Indian playback sensation Arijit Singh. The singer expressed immense satisfaction regarding the team-up, highlighting how wonderful it felt to collaborate once again with Singh while working alongside some of his favorite creative talents on a single project. The film star, who celebrated his 61st birthday on November 2, warmly acknowledged the post and expressed gratitude for the musician's contribution to the soundtrack.
Theatrical Release Set for December 24
The actor's recent birthday drew widespread warm wishes from numerous film industry veterans and admirers. Among those sending greetings was veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, who shared a reflective message on the social media platform X a day later, warmly explaining his delayed greeting by describing the superstar as a true powerhouse who naturally commands a houseful presence. Sinha praised the actor's charm, charisma, and widespread standing while wishing him happiness, peace, prosperity, and good health. Fans awaiting the star's return to the silver screen will not have to wait long, as the action project King is slated for its official theatrical release on December 24.
