Director Nelson Dilipkumar and superstar Rajinikanth are gearing up for the release of the highly anticipated action thriller 'Jailer 2', generating immense excitement among fans. The upcoming movie marks a major milestone as veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty returns to the Tamil film industry after more than a decade. During the recently held 'Jailer 2 Super Show', Rajinikanth shared an amusing behind-the-scenes anecdote detailing the humorous condition Mithun laid down before signing on for the project.
The Quirky Condition Behind the Casting
As Rajinikanth reprises his iconic role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, he recounted how the film's team initially approached Mithun Chakraborty to discuss the project. When the crew met him, the veteran actor jokingly inquired if he was playing the villain and if he would end up getting beaten up by Rajinikanth. The conversation resumed later when the two stars crossed paths during the WAVES समिट. Mithun told his longtime friend that he would gladly do the movie on one condition: that Rajinikanth's character would neither beat him up nor shoot at him. Rajinikanth laughed and replied that he would check with the director, fully aware that his colleague was joking around.
A Longstanding Bond and Previous Collaborations
This venture marks only the second Tamil project for Mithun Chakraborty, who made his debut in the industry back in 2015 with 'Yagavarayinum Naa Kaakka'. The two cinematic icons share a rich history of collaboration. They previously worked together in the 1989 film 'Bhrashtachar', directed by Ramesh Sippy. Furthermore, Rajinikanth made a special cameo appearance in the 1995 Bengali film 'Bhagya Debata', which starred Mithun Chakraborty and Rituparna Sengupta. Their enduring personal friendship has been cited as a key factor in bringing Mithun on board for this massive production.
An Ensemble Star Cast of Legends
One of the most striking aspects of 'Jailer 2' is the historic gathering of three Dadasaheb Phalke Award-winning artists sharing the screen together. Alongside Rajinikanth and Mithun Chakraborty, Malayalam cinema legend Mohanlal is also part of the stellar ensemble. The movie features Ramya Krishnan, SJ Suryah, Suraj Venjaramoodu, and Vidya Balan in prominent roles. Additionally, Shivarajkumar and Jackie Shroff will make special cameo appearances, reprising the special dynamic they brought to the first installment.
Technical Crew and Release Schedule
Behind the camera, the action thriller is helmed by director Nelson Dilipkumar, with an energetic soundtrack composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The cinematography is handled by Vijay Karthik Kannan. According to the production house Sun Pictures, the film is officially scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15, 2026.
