New Delhi. Prominent actor Anup Soni has spoken candidly about the harsh realities of the acting industry, shedding light on the struggles of typecasting and how artists navigate their careers. Soni believes that not every actor in the industry enjoys the freedom to select characters according to their personal preference. Only a handful of top-tier superstars, such as Shah Rukh Khan, have reached a stature where they can pick and choose their preferred roles, while the rest of the actors often have to work within the constraints of stereotyped characters.
The Harsh Truth of Typecasting
During an interview, Anup Soni pointed out that virtually every actor faces typecasting in some form, even within the hero category. Unless someone reaches the superstar level of Shah Rukh Khan, they cannot simply demand to do action or any other genre of their liking. Shah Rukh Khan has predominantly been a romantic hero, but due to his massive stardom, he holds the power to decide and announce that he wants to do an action film and have filmmakers bring those scripts to him.
Success Defines Actor Categories
Soni further elaborated that every actor is eventually pigeonholed into a specific category, such as being labeled a chocolate boy, a romantic hero, or an action-only hero. Professional success dictates a lot of these parameters in the industry. Acknowledging this as a bitter truth, he noted that if an actor is successful enough, they gain the command to influence decisions and shape their career trajectory on their own terms.
Anup Soni's Versatile Journey
Over the years, Anup Soni has taken on diverse roles across various films and series, including Class of 83, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, Tandav, and Sasural Simar Ka or Sas Bahu Aachar Private Limited. Through these projects, he has continuously pushed himself to adapt to varied characters rather than getting confined to a single image. His journey spanning television, films, and OTT platforms reflects constant reinvention. In his recent release Shak, he essayed the role of a police officer, which was closely followed by a completely different character in the film The One.
Shah Rukh Khan's Upcoming Film King
Discussing the work front of Shah Rukh Khan, the superstar continues to generate immense buzz for his upcoming movie King. The project will feature him sharing screen space with his daughter Suhana Khan. Audiences will witness an intense action avatar of Shah Rukh Khan once again in this movie.
