The wait is finally over for fans of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, as the makers of his much-anticipated next film have revealed its official title along with the first-look poster. Known so far only by its code name "L 367", the movie will now be called Operation Ganga. Director Vishnu Mohan and the film's team made the announcement on Instagram on Saturday.
A story rooted in a real rescue mission
Operation Ganga is not a work of pure fiction, it draws directly from a real chapter of recent history. When war broke out between Russia and Ukraine, the Indian government launched a large-scale evacuation effort to bring its citizens home safely. Under that mission, thousands of Indian students and other citizens who were stranded in Ukraine were flown back to the country. The film aims to bring that very rescue operation to the big screen.
A stacked cast and shooting underway in Georgia
The makers are calling it one of the biggest and most ambitious projects of Mohanlal's career so far. Billed as a high-octane survival thriller packed with action and drama, the film brings together a heavyweight ensemble. Alongside Mohanlal, actors Arjun Rampal, Bhagyashree Borse, Parthiban and Adil Hussain will be seen in key roles. The unit is currently shooting on real locations in Georgia to give the film an authentic, on-ground feel.
National Award winning director, Gokulam Movies banner
The film is being helmed by National Award winning filmmaker Vishnu Mohan, who previously made headlines with the devotional blockbuster Meppadiyan. It is being produced under the well-known banner Sree Gokulam Movies. Gokulam Gopalan is the film's chief producer, while Baiju Gopalan and V C Praveen are also on board as producers.
Big names lead the action, music and camera work
To make the film a grand theatrical experience, the makers have brought in several established names for the technical crew. Action director C Young Oh, known for designing action sequences in films like Kill and Dhurandhar, will choreograph the action for this project. Composer Shashwat Sachdev, fresh off the success of Dhurandhar, has taken charge of the music for this new film. Meanwhile, cinematographer Miroslav Kuba Brozek, who has shot big-ticket films like Pushpa 1 and Pushpa 2, will handle the camera work on Operation Ganga.
Anticipation around the project had been building ever since it was known only by its code name, and the reveal of the title and first look has only raised expectations further. With a large ensemble cast, a story based on real events, and a heavyweight technical team behind it, Operation Ganga is being counted among the biggest film projects of the year.
