A significant creative restructuring is underway for director Nitesh Tiwari's cinematic spectacle Ramayana ahead of its planned theatrical rollout in 2026. Designed to capture both domestic and international markets, the grand retelling is scheduled to reach screens in Hindi as well as an English-language version. To suit global cinematic pacing, the English edition of the film will differ substantially from its primary domestic cut, arriving around 30 minutes shorter in total duration and eliminating musical numbers entirely.
Tailoring the Global Cut by Removing Songs and Trimming Scenes
The adjustments to the English cut reflect distinct narrative expectations across overseas theatrical markets. Every song sequence will be completely omitted from the international version, allowing the plot to move forward without musical interruptions. In addition to cutting the tracks, editorial trims will be applied to several scenes to keep the narrative tight and focused. While Indian moviegoers frequently embrace three-hour-plus epics enriched with musical intervals, international audiences generally lean toward concise runtimes and uninterrupted dramatic momentum. An official public confirmation regarding these editorial choices has not yet been issued by the production team.
First Musical Release Jai Jai Ram Debuted on Ganesh Chaturthi
The musical foundation of the project was first introduced to audiences on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi with the launch of the track Jai Jai Ram. Featuring a musical composition by AR Rahman, the devotional song showcases vocals by Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal. The visual presentation accompanying the song featured pivotal narrative sequences, spanning the sacred wedding of Lord Ram, played by Ranbir Kapoor, and Sita, played by Sai Pallavi, through to their departure into the forest.
Two-Part Theatrical Release Blueprint Backed by 4000 Crore Budget
Mounted under the collaborative banners of Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios, DNEG, and Yash's production house Monster Mind Creations, the expansive cinematic saga will unfold across two cinematic chapters. The opening installment is slated to debut on cinema screens on Diwali 2026, followed by the concluding second installment on Diwali 2027. Across both feature films, the overall combined production expenditure stands at an estimated 4000 crore.
Ensemble Cast Anchors Iconic Mythological Roles
The ambitious retelling brings together prominent actors to portray central figures from the epic. Ranbir Kapoor leads the production in the role of Lord Ram alongside Sai Pallavi as Sita. The mythological ensemble also features Yash stepping into the role of Ravana, Sunny Deol depicting Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey portraying Lakshmana.
