A high-profile interaction in London recently brought together global environmental advocacy and the Indian entertainment industry. British royal family member Prince William engaged in a meaningful discussion with Indian filmmaker Karan Johar. During their meeting, the royal acknowledged the prominent director's dedication to scaling the Earthshot Prize initiative within India, commending his involvement and describing him as an inspirational figure with an exceptionally grounded demeanor.
Expanding Environmental Initiatives Across India
The core discussion centered on broadening the horizon of the Earthshot Prize, an environmental initiative designed to discover and nurture ground-breaking solutions for planetary challenges. Commending the director's support in introducing the initiative to Indian audiences, Prince William stated that he is genuinely an icon who helped establish the project in India. The overarching ambition remains turning this endeavor into a fully dedicated Indian Earthshot Prize, marking the largest undertaking of its kind to date.
The global mission will culminate in a dedicated summit scheduled for November 17, 2026, aimed at accelerating impactful green projects. The gathering will bring together leading business figures, technical innovators, and global investors under one umbrella. Across several categories, 15 finalists will receive recognition for developing pioneering environmental solutions that help safeguard ecological balance.
Global Reach of Bollywood and an Introduction to K3G
Following the discussion on climate solutions, the dialogue shifted toward Indian cinema and its widespread international appeal. When questioned by a journalist on whether he had watched any cinematic work by the director, Prince William revealed that he had not yet had the chance to do so. Noting the filmmaker's modest demeanor, he mentioned that he remained open to viewing them as time progressed.
The conversation led to a direct recommendation of the 2001 multi-starrer family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, widely known among audiences as K3G. The landmark production featured an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor Khan. A journalist encouraged the royal to mention to the director that he intended to watch the film, an idea that Prince William warmly accepted and promised to bring up during their next interaction.
