A controversy erupted after a video surfaced from the Kunjapuri fair held in Tehri, Uttarakhand, where Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi was stopped during his performance and publicly reprimanded by cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal. The clip quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing mixed reactions and harsh online trolling directed at the veteran artist. In response to the backlash and the public dressing down, several prominent names from the entertainment and music industry stepped forward to condemn the treatment meted out to the singer and offered him strong backing.
The Incident at the Kunjapuri Fair
During the event, cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal interrupted the performance and remarked on stage that the singer was barely able to stand and questioned his ability to sing. As soon as the footage made its way online, the situation escalated rapidly, triggering intense discussions and numerous memes at the artist's expense. While criticism mounted from certain corners, the music community swiftly mobilized to defend one of its most recognizable figures against the public humiliation.
Early Support from Mika Singh and Kapil Sharma
Amid the growing controversy, Daler Mehndi's younger brother and fellow singer Mika Singh was among the first to defend him. Mika released a video asserting that his older brother does not consume alcohol and that no one has ever witnessed him do so, making such accusations entirely baseless. He further revealed that the veteran artist has been dealing with health issues and has been unwell for the past two years. Following Mika, comedian and television host Kapil Sharma also voiced his support for the singer.
Badshah Slams Public Humiliation
Joining the chorus of supporters, rapper and singer Badshah took to Instagram stories to state that Daler Mehndi is a legend and deserves utmost respect. He wrote that while people are entitled to their displeasure, no artist should ever be humiliated in public, especially someone who has contributed so much to the music industry. Badshah emphasized that legends deserve dignity, particularly when they are facing difficult circumstances or personal struggles.
Palash Sen Shares an Emotional Note
Singer Palash Sen also shared a long and emotional note on social media standing firmly with Daler Mehndi. Describing the veteran not just as a pioneer and the king of bhangra but as a brother, Palash praised his personality and his immense contribution to global music that has brought smiles to millions. He noted that while the world sees him as a massive star, he personally knows him as an exceptionally kind-hearted person who cares deeply for others. Daler Mehndi has since reacted to Palash Sen's heartfelt message.
