Tensions flared across the capital as demonstrators gathered to demand the resignation of Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral discrepancies. Organized by the Cockroach Janata Party, the agitation at Jantar Mantar encountered strict containment measures by security forces. Adding an unexpected dimension to the political unrest, film actress Richa Chadha turned to social media to urge residents to reach the demonstration site while advising them on ways to conceal their identities from surveillance cameras.
Celebrity Advocacy and Face-Altering Techniques
Taking to social media platform X, the actress highlighted that heavy blockades at city borders and transport choke points were preventing individuals from outside the region from accessing central demonstration areas. She urged local inhabitants to compensate for these restrictions by turning out in massive numbers. Outlining practical precautions, she recommended that marchers move on foot, carry adequate hydration, and utilize caps, protective masks, and eyewear. Challenging official expectations, she posted, ‘They think you won’t show up, prove them wrong.’
Alongside her message, she circulated a makeup demonstration clip showing an individual applying specific facial patterns to disrupt natural facial recognition. The visual guide was intended to help participants alter their facial features, allowing them to participate in civic action without immediately exposing their biometric identity to monitoring devices.
Imran Khan and Notable Figures Taken into Custody
The fallout from the agitation extended well beyond the capital, leading to police action in Maharashtra as well. High-profile entertainment figures who expressed solidarity with the movement found themselves taken into custody. In Mumbai, film actor Imran Khan was detained alongside his partner Lekha Washington and actress Zayn Khan. Sharing an update from inside the police vehicle on Instagram, Imran Khan remarked humorously, ‘Looks like I’m going for a drive.’ Lekha echoed a similar lighthearted tone, posting, ‘Romance should be like this.’
Simultaneously, Delhi witnessed detentions of several influential internet personalities and political organizers. Prominent YouTuber Dhruv Rathee and CJP representative Ratna Singh were both placed into police custody. Furthermore, key figures including Abhijeet Dipke alongside spokespersons Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka were apprehended upon their arrival at the Delhi airport. Official estimates indicate that security personnel have detained more than 200 participants across multiple locations.
Over 40,000 Personnel Deployed Alongside Heavy Barricades
In an effort to prevent assembly at designated high-security zones, administrative authorities mobilized extensive enforcement units. A contingent exceeding 40,000 personnel, drawn from the Delhi Police and Central Armed Police Forces, took up positions across sensitive corridors. Thoroughfares leading toward central areas were heavily fortified with physical barricades and road spike strips designed to halt vehicle movement.
Under the leadership of Abhijeet Dipke, the demonstration centers on alleged irregularities discovered within the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls. The organizing group maintains that systemic issues compromised the voter update exercise, driving their unyielding call for Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to step down from his post immediately.
